Fennels

Fennels has enjoyed a chequered history; nothing to do with the food, which has always been interesting, but mainly concerned with relationships between owner/managers and chefs breaking up with painful regularity, however, under the stewardship of Richard Brooks, Fennels should now be set fair for a secure future, creating something special in a town with many restaurants, but few of any distinction.

Fox, The

It's funny how history repeats itself. One of my earliest memories as a little nipper is being taken out on my birthday for a big treat - eating out at a roadhouse. Memory serves me ill as to what the food was like, in any case at that age anything was welcome, but the ambience was impressive - space, jollity, warmth, free and easy, yes, it really was a treat.

Hadley Park House

Hadley Park is one of those typical tall, red-brick Shropshire/Staffordshire houses that come in varying degrees of sophistication, in this case agreeably well up the scale; its restaurant offers an eclectic mix of contemporary English dishes, it was awarded a coveted AA Rosette only four months after being re-opened.

Horns of Boningale

The Horns is at least 300 years old and was a regular stop-off for cattle drovers taking their charges along the old Holyhead road. In recent years it has had its ups and downs but new management has recently (2004) ensured a return to the good days and an air of relaxed enjoyment now pervades.
