This is a stylish 15th century village inn, with open fires & timbered ceilings, which claims to be where Shakespeare's parents were married. It is one mile from Mary Arden's House and five miles from Stratford.

The menu sports rustic dishes drawing its inspiration from around the world, while proclaiming "the famous Aston Cantlow Duck Suppers are a must." All the food is freshly prepared for a menu that changes every three months. Real ales are available on hand pump, and there is an impressive wine list.

Starters may include oak smoked salmon layered with blinis, crème fraiche & caviar dressing (£6.50); ham hock, potato & sun blushed tomato terrine with haricot vert (£6.25); smoked chicken Caesar salad (£5.95); sautéed tiger prawns, chorizo & fettuccini with lemon & rosemary (£6.95).

Main courses include the Kings Head duck supper with gratin potatoes, caraway cabbage & shallot jam (£14.25); prawn & lemon grass cakes with basil mayonnaise (£9.75); 5 hour lamb on pumpkin & thyme mash, rosemary sauce (£12.95); butternut squash ravioli, wilted rocket, parmesan & crème fraiche (£9.95).

Desserts include char-grilled banana, rum & raisin ice cream & chocolate sauce.

The Bluebell is one of those gastropubs where you could quite easily spend an evening simply relaxing in their peaceful ambience and the interior makes the grade as a sought after freehouse with original Tudor features and opulent design elements. Of course you might well have a yearning to sip some of their wines or tuck into some delicious food, while you're at it.

This Good Food Guide 2010 entrant's single-minded fervour in using locally sourced ingredients is evident on the menu, which is an intermingling of British classics and Anglo-Italian touches. Starters such as king prawn and crab spring rolls followed by main courses like free braised pork belly and open style Scotch fillet steak Wellington are wildly popular. Afternoon tea is a must, served on a three tiered cake stand and filled with tempting treats.

There's a fantastic selection of fine wines at The Bluebell with twenty available by the glass and a superb choice of local cask ales and cider.
