Leamington Spa always strikes me as one of those places that are full of eastern promise - well, if not eastern, at least promise. As far as the restaurant business is concerned some very interesting enterprises have taken off there, and now another has been added with the arrival  of Peter and Antje Knibb.

Restaurant at Chapel House Hotel

A gracious house, next to the church as you might expect, the Georgian dining room offers a daily changing a la carte menu of dishes cooked freshly to order using locally sourced ingredients whenever possible, like Grendon lamb, Packington pork, etc.

Restaurant at Clarendon House

The hotel incorporates the former 1430's Castle Tavern, still supported by the oak tree around which it was originally built. The brasserie offers a very wide range of well prepared and attractive dishes from a menu which combs the world for inspiration.

Restaurant at Mallory Court Hotel

The Victorian architect, Lutyens, generally improved the quality of architecture wherever he went, and he certainly achieved a splendid result at Mallory Court. Given the generally accepted relationship between surroundings and the level of personal enjoyment it would not take too much exertion on the part of those in the kitchen to also achieve results.

An exercise in elegance and refinement with food which, whilst traditional, has a modern trend well expressed in a variety of scintillating dishes. Outside are beautiful grounds, a golf course and mile upon mile of middle England at its best.

A traditional hotel in the centre of this grandly named town with a restaurant that deals very competently with a modern-based cuisine that does not lose sight of its origins. Great emphasis is laid on dishes being freshly prepared and, wherever possible making use of local produce.

Restaurant at The White Bear Hotel

The White Bear dominates the market square, presenting a traditional old English appearance to passers by, of whom there are many. The restaurant has recently been refurbished and now looks very smart, offering a menu that treads no daring paths but produces mainly comfort dishes, with which I have absolutely no quarrel, always provided they are cooked well.

A former farmhouse amidst ten of the rolling acres of Warwickshire, The Woodhouse is owned and run by a Swiss chef whose motto is 'the best ingredients, simply cooked, served in a friendly, relaxing atmosphere at a sensible cost'.
