The Newbold
18 Newbold Street, Leamington Spa, CV32 4HN [Map]
You can find The Newbold tucked away on Newbold Street, conveniently located for the historic Pump Rooms, Jephson Gardens and the Spa Centre and only a short stroll away from the hustle and bustle of Royal Leamington Spa. Already recognised as a well established and highly regarded pub and restaurant, the new owners, Anton and Gaynor Thorpe have introduced a fresh approach to The Newbold - following on from their success at The Plough Inn at Eathorpe.
The focus of this gastropub lies in providing quality home cooked food which is sourced locally and priced sensibly. From the à la carte, starters could include deep fried breaded whitebait with homemade tartare sauce followed by a hearty smothered rump 8 oz steak topped with mushrooms and onions sautéed in garlic butter and topped with melted Stilton. The whole Newbold experience is complemented by a carefully chosen drinks list, comprising of both New and Old World wines, while they also serve a selection of well kept traditional ales as well as modern beers and lagers.

Faradays
Copthorne Hotel Merry Hill, The Waterfront, Level Street, Brierley Hill, DY5 1UR [Map]
The Auld Alliance is alive and well at Faradays, where the occasional spark may fly in memory of Michael Faraday, the Victorian father of electrical engineering, especially since the building used to be an electricity pump station. The conversion has been beautifully done in muted shades and with due consideration to space.
John Inches who has brought all this about, is also the chef and following his love of France as well as his experience in top Scottish hotels offers a comfortable blend of cuisines.
This is well evidenced in the tender spring lamb casserole of red lentils, cream, garlic and fresh herbs. Wine reflects the Gallic influence and there is sufficient choice beyond to keep everyone happy. A typical three course meal will cost around £20, representing very good value for money.
