Located in the heart of Stratford-upon-Avon as part of the Shakespeare Hotel, literature enthusiasts will find the perfect setting for inspiration in Othello's Bar and Brasserie. An inn and a meeting place for writers, actors and artists since the 18th century, the building still retains the distinctive gabled frontage of the Tudor period though most of its original features have been tastefully refurbished.
The cuisine is a mix of modern European and traditional English dishes and there's something for anyone who feels like stopping for a bite - be it an elaborate three course meal with fine wine or a quick lunch. Begin with seared scallops or seasonal soup served with crusty bread, followed by lamb three ways or a more traditional cod and chips. Conclude with one of the chef's special homemade puddings. There's a garden terrace where you can to enjoy afternoon tea with homemade scones and clotted cream, or perhaps relax with Pimm's or a glass of champagne with local strawberries and cream.
No place brings the bard to life like Stratford-upon-Avon and Othello's does its part in adding charm to history.

Lower Green, Ilmington, CV36 4LT [Map]
Those who recall the somnolent inn that once was, will be delighted by the lively but unspoiled ambience of this 17th century pub by the village green. No long-cooked, over prepared potential gastro-enteritis creating dishes here, rather quality ingredients well blended and attractively served, with the week's menu chalked up on blackboards, at real value for money prices too. It still has a genuine pubby feel to it, that blend of chumminess and complete disassociation from the cares of the world outside.
Choices with which to commence your meal could include seared squid, cannelloni beans, red onion and chilli; brie, red Leicester and cream cheese tart, potted shrimps with cucumber and cress salad and rye toast, pear and watercress salad or creamy wild mushroom, roast garlic and tarragon linguine. You could then follow with homemade fresh and smoked haddock cake, poached egg, chive butter sauce; a pork chop with black pudding, sausage, mushroom and tomato mixed grill, sage butter; their justly famed beef, ale and mustard pie or aubergine and potato Thai green curry with fragrant rice.
