Strategically set on a bend in the A443 The Hundred Hotel is a handsome double-bayed Regency house with ample rooms for its varied activities including weddings, conferences, private parties and extensive residential accommodation. The surrounding countryside is highly scenic and just down the road is Witley Court.

As well as offering an extensive and highly popular bar menu the restaurant has an a la carte menu that should fill the average breast with pleasure. Expect ripe avocado with cornets of smoked salmon, homemade duck and apricot terrine with melba toast or king prawns and mixed peppers with a sweet chilli glaze. Main courses follow the same pattern with pan-fried fillet of cod topped with a walnut crust and tarragon sauce, toad in the hole, using Cumberland sausage and served with a thyme gravy, or a grilled whole lemon sole with melted herb butter. Local interests are preserved with a 14oz Herefordshire T-bone steak.

Aficionados of the great British breakfast may settle for the evening equivalent in the form of the Chef's mixed grill, an awesome compilation of steak, lamb chop, pork chop, gammon, sausage, liver, kidney, egg and pineapple.

The puddings are perhaps the least-strong part of the menu, with too much dependence upon mass-produced bought-in offerings, though the blackboard list is well worth study if you wish something more homely.

The wine list is not over-lengthy, but zips around the world and includes four house wines between £10-£13. All bottles are under £20. Service is friendly and not too swift to cause misgivings.

Slug and Lettuce has a chain of almost a hundred bars spread across the country sharing a common love of serving down to earth, undemanding food and drink.

The group prides itself on offering dishes prepared using quality ingredients, and you should be attended on by attentive staff in a safe, welcoming and cheerful environment. The Slugs have something for anyone - breakfast for a lively start to the day, lunch for busy people, family meals or even a relaxing glass of wine to bring a tiring day to an end - all in a variety of modern and stylish settings.

The menu features old time English favourites such as Gloucestershire Old Spot sausages in buttered mash or fish pie made with Dartmouth smokehouse haddock, in a Devon cream and leek sauce, although dishes look to Europe and further afield to Asia for inspiration. A good way to start the enjoyment is by sharing platters of Southern fried chicken breast pieces, crispy potato wedges, garlic ciabatta strips, half a rack of BBQ pork ribs, wasabi vegetables with onion rings or some Greek mezze

Hearty steak pies, Thai curry with sticky jasmine rice or butternut squash with goats' cheese lasagne are amongst the more popular main dishes. Sandwiches or wraps - warm tortilla with chicken and Parmesan or aromatic duck in plum sauce - provide for those who prefer something lighter. They also serve burgers as well as tempting salads like salmon, asparagus or tomato and mozzarella. For children they have good old British standby sausage and mash, or pepper pasta and ketchup among other choices, all of which never fail to delight, particularly as some of them seem to have come out of a certain celebrity chef's Book of Forbidden Dishes.

Desserts appear in the form of raspberry biscotti, hot chocolate pudding or a creamy strawberry cheesesake. The wine list is well compiled and substantial. There are not less than seven French, three from Italy and some from Spain, Chile, Australia as well as New Zealand. Slug and Lettuce can cater for events including birthday parties, fashion shows, hen nights, wedding parties or just an enjoyable night out with a few friends.

The location of Fusion Brasserie in the old Bird in Hand in Stoulton has undoubtedly given rise to numerous references to the old saying, but the truth is that it's just perfect for them. Bright, airy and spacious, this restaurant brings a kind of sophisticated elegance to the rural setting with the right dose of charm and a sense of suave appreciation of all that's beautiful and tastes wonderful too. The relaxing ambience of the dining room gives way to a more down to earth approach in the bar and the food is represented excellently by the modern European cuisine.

Nibble on focaccia bread with garlic butter and get started with dishes such as Bibury Farm smoked trout cheesecake with dill dressing and move on to a main course of fillet of Aberdeen Angus with Portobello mushroom and grain mustard jus. End your meal at Fusion with a white chocolate and strawberry cheesecake and choose something from the extensive wine list which also features numbers from the renowned Ruinart house.
