Close to the revitalised docks in the appealing cathedral city of Gloucester, Bearlands is centrally located in an 18th century building. The vaulted interior of exposed brickwork and dusky pink creates a relaxing mood; the airy conservatory offers a brighter setting for drinks.

Thai cuisine has come to Solihull, and in a setting that can only bring out the best in the impressions of those for whom Thai food is still a relatively new experience. The premises at Old Lode Lane are sumptuous in a way at which Far Eastern expertise is very adept.

Bell & Cross Inn

This welcoming pub and restaurant has the distinction of being owned and run by Roger Narbett and his wife Joanne. Roger cares for the culinary wellbeing of the England football team, and possibly finding this a touch less than fully demanding, also runs two inns of his own, of which this is one.

Since 1999 the Bell has grown fast in reputation and popularity. In the view of many it has achieved this by sticking to what the customer wants but making sure it is the best and by not being afraid to introduce new ideas.

Bell, The

From the outside The Bell displays a pretty acceptable version of the mock Gothic style. Inside it's a very different story. Described by one critic as an " aggressively rural alehouse", The Bell offers a warm welcome, an inspiring collection of beers, including Timothy Taylor's Best Bitter, alleged to be the only source of Bitter (not Landlord) from that brewery, south of the mystical line alleged to separate the men from the boys.

  • Avg. Cost Per Head Lunch: £16.00, Dinner: £28.00
