Located in the idyllic Beamish conservation valley, a 10 minute drive from the Beamish museum, Black Horse is a 300 year old pub surrounded by vast gardens and tranquil countryside. The historical country pub manages to retain its character and charm, with interiors of beamed ceilings, exposed stonework, flagged doors and open fires, welcoming large groups of families as well as the occasional traveller. The food is prepared from fresh ingredients supplied by the pub's own gardens, with poultry and fish sourced from local markets.

The menu varies seasonally and changes constantly. It consists of dishes of prawn and crayfish tail cocktail with crisp lettuce, Marie Rose sauce, fresh lemon and brown bread fingers; and caramelised pork belly served with puy lentils, herbs, shallot and bacon salad, apple puree and salad leaves. Mains consist of pub classics such as slow cooked beef in red wine, served with creamy mash, glazed carrots, braised scallion and grain mustard; and rump, rib-eye and sirloin steaks served with vegetables.

Desserts consist of jam sponge pudding and a selection of ice creams which can be savoured while enjoying the beautiful view.
