Barrasford Arms

Chef Tony Binks took over this 1870s pub in 2006. Already voted "Destination Restaurant of the Year", the pub sits at the heart of Barrasford village in the North Tyne valley. Tony's cooking style is traditionally English with French influences, this is a homage to his friend and mentor, international renowned chef Albert Roux, who pays the occasional visit.

Diwan E Am Tandoori Restaurant

Apparently it took until 1983 for the pleasures of Indian cuisine to arrive in the Tyne Valley area, and it was, of course, Diwan-E-Am who came up with the goods. The Geordies could hardly have had better tutors, and if the statistics are anything to go by there has been a wealth of catching up done in the years between then and now.

Swallow George Hotel

One of the longer established members of the Swallow chain, the pleasant Riverside Restaurant is just that. Start with, say, a rilette of meats with a ceviche of beetroot. The roast pave of salmon with a Caesar salad was well-judged and mingled well with the milk chocolate truffle served with a compote of warm black cherries.
