Zouk deviates from popular notions of curry houses because it does away with the usual trappings of a restaurant and emerges as a tea bar and grill where friends could meet over deliciously prepared meals and converse easily as if they were at home. The friendly atmosphere offsets their healthy Lahore cuisine and the setting is stylish and modern. They are open all day and their chefs use the freshest ingredients to create authentic Indian cuisine that has won them quite a few accolades too.

Amongst starters, choose from gola kabab, minced chicken combined with paneer and herbs or tender lamb chops served with tamarind and chilli sauce. Vegetarians could try the masala mirch, a long chilli stuffed with herbs, spices and pan fried with onions and tomatoes. Traditional favourites abound in the main course such as paya, sheep trotters cooked for several hours, or chicken haleem, prepared with lentils and broken wheat.

It's always nice to find a restaurant which exceeds your expectations and with Aagrah, you will find a whole group of them spread across Yorkshire. At every location, their ideology remains the same, delicious Indian food served in remarkably comfortable and casually sophisticated surroundings. The story of Aagrah began in 1977 and continues to surprise people with their range of Kashmiri cuisine prepared with fresh produce and ingredients.

Expect to begin with starters such as prawn paratha, cooked with garlic, ginger and spices wrapped in flaky paratha and move on to murgh waziri, breast of chicken marinated with spices, grilled and cooked with a tarka sauce or a nihari, a typical dish from Lahore. The flavour of Hyderabad is evident alongside popular favourites of achari and rogan josh. There's also a selection of English dishes with grilled lamb chops or breaded scampi and the eclectic drinks list includes spirits, fine wines and champagnes.

Bronte Restaurant at Ring O' Bells

Hill Top Road, Thornton, Bradford, BD13 3QL [Map]

Yorkshire pubs really do have a way with food and the Ring o' Bells is no exception. They are not bad on views either and again the Bells score, high up on the moors above the village of Thornton, birthplace of the Brontës. This is a traditional, family-owned Yorkshire pub, where friendliness is endemic, and the winning of Awards almost an incidental.

In dining room or bar the menu is much the same - expect to find roasted belly pork on a haggis mash with a red wine sauce, or smooth chicken and liver pate served with redcurrant jelly and toast. For a little padding try either a loaf of garlic bread or an extra warm granary loaf.

It would not be Yorkshire without roast topside of English beef, with rich gravy and the famous Pudding. Slow cooked lamb tagine served with vegetable cous-cous give a nice Mediterranean touch, or there is home-made steak and kidney pie with various forms of lid, including shallot and herb suet crust or puff pastry.

The sea yields its customary harvest with a mixed fresh seasonal fish pie, or perhaps poached prime fresh haddock gratinated with a prawn mornay sauce. Pan fried King prawns come with garlic butter and topped with a Thai caramel on lime and coconut risotto, and pineapple, mango salsa.

Desserts follow the same robust pattern with a traditional home-made steamed suet jam roly-poly with vanilla custard, or an only slightly less challenging sticky toffee Guinness cake with Tia Maria ice cream.

Their wine list is constantly being revised and amended as new ones are presented and the list currently features well over a hundred red, white, sparkling and dessert wines from all over the world, while the prices are competitive.

For over twenty years Omar Khan's rightfully enjoys its reputation as a respectable Asian restaurant in an area where there is no dearth of curry houses. Step inside and the striking red décor grabs your attention immediately and mirrors, artwork and dark wood furniture adorn the elegantly dressed dining area.

The menu could open with cashew rolls, sautéed mushrooms with onions, garlic and a hint of spices, or char-grilled cottage cheese. For main courses there is haddock seasoned with fresh herbs and cooked in a light spicy sauce with lemon, ginger and coriander or a rich chicken curry made with whipped yogurt, thyme and spices, and simmered in its own stock.

If you enjoy the smoky flavour of grilled meats then try the lamb tikka, or there are succulent pieces of diced chicken marinated in yogurt, cream cheese and fresh herbs for those of a more delicate palate.
