Around 1677 the local tenants used to assemble at this farmhouse location to pay their rent, during the course of which a few glasses of home brew disappeared down the hatch, and somehow the habit caught on. Now with three generations of the same family under its belt, The Black Horse is one of the most respected inns in the area.

Two dining rooms and the bar area serve from a menu that is quintessentially British, with local steak and Black Sheep ale pie with hand chopped chips, rich gravy and vegetables of the season, or beer battered haddock with chips and minted pea puree well to the fore. Moving on into more contemporary times, there's buttered British asparagus with rocket pesto linguini and soft poached free range egg.
