Angel Inn

The Angel at Hetton, near to Skipton, sets a remarkably hearty pace as an example for British pubs, which are aiming to fashion a unique experience, to follow. The Angel Inn was the creation of Denis Watkins, who sadly died in July 2004, he was a delightful man, an extremely able chef and always full of bubbling enthusiasm.

Caveau, Le

Nestling deep in the Yorkshire Dales it may come as no surprise to hear that in a former incarnation Le Caveau served as a place of incarceration for felons and sheep rustlers. Admittedly this was a few years back, though this being Yorkshire, not all that many.

Restaurant at Red Lion

A 16th Century country village inn on the banks of the River Wharfe, situated on the Dalesway - the whole area is a veritable walkers' paradise. The Red Lion has a traditional oak-panelled Dales bar with real ales and an extensive wine list (they were wine pub of the year for 2003), they serve food daily in the bar - plenty of oak beams and wonderful log fires in winter.

Restaurant at The Coniston Hotel

Whilst primarily a place for groups looking for action-packed days in the country, the excellent restaurant is open to all and well worth paying a visit. The fact that you might subsequently be tempted into something a little more lively than toying with an excellent steak is neither here nor there.

Tempest Arms, The

In the benevolent shadow of Broughton Hall, from whose family they take their name The Tempest Arms enjoys a great reputation for hospitality in this relatively remote part of Yorkshire. Cooking is sturdily British both in cuisine and standards of hospitality.

  • Cuisine(s): British
  • Avg. Cost Per Head Lunch: £18.00, Dinner: £28.00
