The Tai Pan formula both here and in Manchester seems to work well. A visit to this one in Liverpool one Sunday morning leaves no doubt as to its success as hordes of happy Chinese devour their Dim Sum. On the assumption that most people go somewhere like this to enjoy their food rather than the décor, you will be happy too. Trolleys loaded with hot, steaming food circulate amongst the tables and you order what you will. Prices are reasonable, service is efficient rather than friendly, parking is secure and you are advised to do as the Chinese do and drink tea with your meal.

Kai's House is a genuinely unique restaurant, it has never featured in any advertising but it has nevertheless become well known for its speciality dishes, such as Mongolian beef, crispy pork, and braised king prawn, and its wide selection of vegetarian dishes.

Their master chef, Kai, developed his singular style and talent whilst working in top class London restaurants for a number of years. Then, as now, his food, whether traditional or modern in inspiration, has always proved to be a success with his clients.

All Kai's sauces hail from their original areas and every dish is the result of a skilled blend of art and cooking, a concept central to Kai's vision and reflected not only in his food but his artwork too; artwork which can be found adorning the walls of this delightfully contemporary and intimately friendly Asian restaurant.

So, whether you wish to spend some time with friends and family or simply want to relax; then, with its high quality and innovative menu, friendly service, warm atmosphere, and top class Chinese tea, Kai's House is an ideal choice.

Occupying one of the most sensational sites on the waterside, Chung Ku is a specially designed brand new building with two restaurant areas on the ground and upper floors. The first floor is reserved for private parties and banquets. Over 400 guests can be accommodated in the whole place. Every part of the interior is ultra modern and the cuisine matches the décor - but is much more tasty. The challenge to the restaurant has in fact been just that and it has certainly been met. Some aspects though are quite traditional, like the large range of dim sum at lunchtime. Banquets start at £19 and the king of them all is the seafood banquet at £35.

Yuet Ben Restaurant

1 Upper Duke Street, Liverpool, L1 9DU [Map]

Another of the old stager Chinese restaurants in town, founded some three decades ago and still going very strong. The quality of the food cannot be faulted and long term experience gives the confidence to make the odd change here and there to traditional dishes. Learn more

Another of the old stager Chinese restaurants in town, founded some three decades ago and still going very strong. The quality of the food cannot be faulted and long term experience gives the confidence to make the odd change here and there to traditional dishes. In a city where a pretty critical eye is turned on Chinese food and every other inhabitant regards themselves as an expert, it is significant that this is where the Chinese eat and you will rarely see it empty.
