Britannia Spice (Edinburgh)
Britannia Spice – as its name suggests – is located beside the Royal Yacht Britannia down on the Shore in Leith. The restaurant continues the nautical theme with navy and gold throughout and the tables being a polished wood, just like the deck of a boat. The room is large and spacious so it feels very airy – just what you want on the muggy nights we are experiencing at the moment. On the night we visited, the restaurant was fairly quiet so the service we got was second to none, waiter greeted us at the front door with a smile and our first drink arrived at the table very promptly. The menu at Britannia Spice is very extensive, with dishes available from India, Bangladesh, Nepal and Thailand. We particularly liked this feature as it separated the restaurant from all the millions of other Indian restaurants in Edinburgh.

Di Maggio's - Royal Exchange Square (Glasgow)
My husband and I were back in the resturant last night, our daughter had given us some vouchers for xmas and I can say we had another fantastic meal. We decided to share three starters, (because we were being greedy)Warm Goats Cheese, Mozzarela Cubes and the Garlic Mushrooms, for our mains we had Fillets Steak, and then we polished off our meal with Apple Pie with ice cream for me and my hubby had a Caramel Sundae. We both had a fantastic evening, the food was cooked to perfection and tasted absolutely delicious, in all the times we've been to this resturant we have always had a good meal, but, last night the cooks excelled themselves. The other thing I do like is the fact that their is lots of staff so dirty plates are quickly taken away, and all the staff are lovely and can't do enough for you. (without being annoying). Well Done Di Maggio's your still our favourite resturant, a massive thanks to all the team. see you all soon.

Frankie & Benny's New York Italian Restaurant & Bar - Bournemouth (Bournemouth)
Called in afternoon of Sat 7th Jan 2011 for a 15" America Hot pizza and two small (330ml)bottles of still water to take away. The thin crust pizza was tasty with fresh cheese and plenty of topping. At £12.95, not bad value for a restaurant take-away. The eye-watering price was £4.50 for the two tiny still water bottles. Why spoil good value with this? A couple of larger ones are close to an 11" pizza itself. £18.45 for a single pizza and two small waters is not attractive, so, as they say...I'm Out.

Caffe Nero - Oxford, Blackwells (Oxford)
One of my great pleasures when visiting Oxford in winter, is to sit with a frothy and delicious chai latte in one of the comfy old seats at Caffe Nero in Blackwells Bookshop. The atmosphere is warm, congenial, and one is surrounded by shelves of fabulous books to brouse from. My times in the café were made more pleasant by the friendly and smiling staff. For customers who wish to use their laptops, there are tables with connections to plugs, and I often wondered if one of these writers tapping away was a future J.K. Rowling. The café also has seating near windows overlooking Broad Street and a little side room with more old leather sofas, so the seating is varied according to your taste in lighting - and of course, availability. Sitting in one of the deep leather seats, I often got to chat to other diners, and the exchange was always interesting, as I suppose other customers shared a common interest in books to be there in Blackwells. I miss England very much, and this cosy café on a cold winter"s day.

Maya's (Southend-On-Sea)
Lunch time experience - only arrived at 12.00pm so first in, self serve buffet, but staff are swift to clear plates and serve breads/drinks. Visited early December 2011, but forced myself as i knew the place before (Charlie Choi's) and gave up on it really as it went down hill but then it closed down and changed name to Maya, i asked and they tell me differant people running it now, anyway, similar decor as before (which was excellent anyway) stairs or lift access as its first floor, so we gave it a go for lunch at £6.95 each, we had 2 cokes and surprisingly a large glass and priced at only £1.50. previously well over priced nearer the £3 mark, so £8.50 with drink total lunchtime just under £17 for 2, (Kids £3.50 i think it was) for ALL you can fit in, so go hungry. Firstly the starters were great, juicy chicken tikka, fish pakoras where very light, crisp wontons, great onion bahji's and excellent french fries, popadoms and prawn crackers (tasted better though as these might have been cooked in old oil), superb Piri-piri chicken wings the meat just slide from the bone, good salad stuff and fresh home made sauces, with lots of nibbly bits, fresh made pizza, soups, nan breads made to order. Now the mains. previously in the old Charlie Choi's the currys where same old usual buffet bland ones , but the ones on on offer now at Maya were of resturant menu quality, lots of meat (Lamb/Chicken) well tasting thick sauces, the Thai curry was spot on ,there was sweet and sour chicken with a bright orange sauce which was too battery and little meat so didn't get seconds, there was oriental lamb dish to which i had 3 helpings i loved it, there is uncooked ingredients for you to hand to the chef who will cook as you like, 2 rice choices and something for the veggies too, Now desserts - ice cream machine, cakes, jellys,Indian rice pudding and a glorious sweet milk based dessert with glass noodles in. 3 helpings i had with a glare from the wife. I pigged out (Should of used the lift down) and skipped evening dinner as felt full for the rest of the day. on the receipt you can get 10% discount when next visiting or 15% with-in 7 days. There also seems to be a area separated what is an Indian restuarant not sure if its Menu only though. A massive improvemant from the old place hope it continues and it will be fairly regular for us when we are very hungry, i love very good quality fresh buffets and this ticks all the boxes. A very positive experiance coming from a big asian food fan. Visited December 2011

The Posthouse (Stafford)
We visited the Post Hose last night for the second time in a week and were once again hugely impressed with the service, the food, the surroundings, the innovation and the value.
There are a lot of rumours floating around the town about the restauarant and its service and pricing policy. I think this is because it offers fine dining which is to Michelin standard with the accompanying price point, but it also offers fabulous food and drink in the Bistro. Seven of us dined there last night and the bill including all drinks and wine was £199. Two of us had one of the Specials for the night which was one of the tastiest T-Bone steaks I have eaten anywhere. The headchef came out and a had a chat with us about the meal and was looking for feedback. Then the owner joined us for ten minutes and explained that they have hired 80 people and most of the staff are new and learning. He was aware that some peole had had a bad experience due to the staff climbing the learning curve, but he seems determined to make the restaurant a magnet for all foodies between B'ham and Manchester. They have invested a huge amount in the surroundings. They have a top class chef and caring management. They have become a substantial employer and I am sure that as more people experience what they have to offer they will get a handsome return on their investment. the pricing in the bars and Bistro is no more expensive than most places in and around Stafford. If you havent been yet, check it out. I think that Stafford will become very proud of The Post House.

Spices - Hartlepool (Hartlepool)
Living in Wolverhampton we are used to visiting many authentic Indian restaurants in the West Midlands, but the food here is as good as anything I have tasted. Even Indian friends have not been aable to produce such tasty meals. However, the service was really slow. The sstaff were apologetic but it was not a busy night so there was no excuse. The quality of the food will draw us back, but we will allow more than two hours for a two course meal.
