Smith's Brasserie (Ongar)

We had lunch at Smith's on Thursday for my birthday, and ordered off the special £16.95 two course lunch menu. There were four of us and we were very disappointed with the quality of food that was served up. My mum had belly of pork, and it was very tough and tasteless. The skate was not very good, and there was not much meat on it. What meat was there was not very white, as it should be. I cook better myself at home. All in all we paid £90 and it was not very good. We have dined at Smith’s for years on special occasions and always had good food, but after that experience we will not be going back again. We really should have complained at the time, but did not. We were all in shock really at what we had. I expect top quality food for that price. What has happened to this place? We are very disappointed.

Prezzo - Ely (Ely)

We have eaten at Prezzo on a number of occasions with family and friends. We have never been disappointed. The service is also fantastic, the food is sensational and the ambience is perfect.

Restaurant at The Bell Inn Hotel (Peterborough)

I eat periodically at the Bell Inn. The food is consistently good, and the manager runs a tight ship. My most memorable meal was when I was convalescing from an operation in the summer of 2006. I had the best kedgeree ever. It should be a staple on the menu.

Moss Nook (Manchester)

We ate at the Moss Nook a week ago using our hi-life card. We had never been there before, but the reviews were good so we thought we would try it. There were four of us and we had two hi-life cards. I’ve got to say that the food was excellent. I had the black pudding to start followed by the roast duckling and tiramisu. My partner had the diver scallops followed by the peppered steak, and then the chocolate medley. We were very well looked after and the members of staff were a compliment to the restaurant. If there was one criticism I would make, it is that when we arrived the restaurant was quiet and we could hear everything that was being said in the kitchen. We did hear that another table had ordered the set menu and that there were some things that they could not eat. Then we heard a male voice, who we assumed to be the chefs saying that they should have ordered from the menu. Maybe the members of staff should be a little more considerate to their customers needs. Otherwise apart from the obvious disgruntled kitchen staff, the night was excellent. The tall man who looked after us and poured our wine was a credit. Thank you.

Oddfellows in the Boat (Lichfield)

We visited the Boat last night for a family meal and were extremely disappointed. We first visited the boat in 2007 when it wowed us with its food. We revisited in September 2008 when we were disappointed, but put it down to being a one off as we were seated next to a party of ten, who the staff were paying keen attention too. However last night’s food confirmed that we will not be returning. We ordered the roast beef, my daughter had the chicken, which we were told came with new potatoes, but it arrived on a bed of cheesy mash. All the meals arrived together with the startling announcement that the vegetables would be another two minutes. Hence all our meals were cold. My plate consisted of one and a half slices of beef; one slice was extremely tender, but the larger slice was tough as old boots. Two roast potatoes and a Yorkshire pudding, which were hard, cold and greasy and tasted like micro waved food. The vegetables obviously needed more then the two minutes. We spoke to the manager who was extremely helpful and removed my daughter’s meal from the bill. However we will not be returning.

Byblos Harbour (City & Fringes)

This is a fantastic restaurant in a nice setting. It is good to find a Middle East restaurant in the East End. The meat is particularly good.

Strada - Cheltenham (Cheltenham)

I visited Strada last Thursday and it was appalling. We waited forty minutes for our food even though the restaurant, when we arrived, seemed relatively quiet. We weren’t offered any drinks apart from the ones we ordered on arrival. The lamb shank was the smallest I think I have ever seen, and the chocolate pudding was a joke, a glorified cup cake. I won't be returning.

Entelia (Bristol)

We had great food and excellent service by really friendly and helpful staff. The food was outstanding and nothing was too much trouble. We will definitely be going there again when we next visit Bristol, and highly recommend it.

Cabin, The (Glasgow)

I have just read a review of this restaurant for the 16th November. We attended the same night and the food was lovely, and staff very welcoming. You are made to feel at home and relaxed. After dinner we were entertained by an amazing singer who also got other customers to sing. By the end of the evening we were singing and dancing, which we had not planned, and had a great night.

Trishna London (Mayfair, Soho & Fringes)

Trishna London is one of the greatest new venues in London. Excellent Indian food adjusted for the European taste, matched with professional and very friendly service. Good wine and drink on offer, and definitely worth a try.
