Gourmet Pizza Company - Gabriel's Wharf (South of the River - East)

Don't be mistaken, the bad reviews might have been from people who still want to be able to get a seat on a Sunday. The food is good; it's a pizza restaurant, right? Get over yourselves. They do perfectly respectable Italian style pizza and some odd ones on the menu as well, mind you. Although you will not meet an Italian waiter there; they are all from other countries although I have never bothered to ask, it has something of the feeling of a real Italian place because it is accommodating, warm and welcoming. I have dined there many times, it's a favourite haunt, and I have always found the staff to be friendly, efficient etc. I now also have three small children to add to the mix, you will find they have lots of high chairs, and the members of staff go out of their way to find somewhere to put your pushchair, and they might even bounce your baby for a short while as you make in-roads into your dinner. On the wine thing, okay then, so buy a bottle!

Coal Grill & Bar (Basingstoke)

I visited Coal in Basingstoke earlier in the year, and had a horrendous experience. The staff had clearly not received any training whatsoever. I heard one declare ‘I haven’t been told anything, I don't even know what I'm getting paid.’ I waited an eternity for anyone to acknowledge me at the front door, and the service was chaotic even though it was not busy at the time. My prawn and steak ‘fire stick’, which is apparently one of their signature dishes, was dried up and disgusting and I asked to speak to a manager. I have to say the décor was quite pleasant and comfortable, and since the restaurant was only a few months old it was still looking quite spiffy. However, they can't hide for long behind this exterior.

King's Restaurant (Grantham)

It was sad to see the decline in what was a quality restaurant with efficient service. It was almost deserted at my last visit compared to being always busy previously, and when the food arrived it was apparent why. We went for Sunday lunch, and were greatly disappointed; coriander with grated carrot! Coriander is the last thing that goes with roast beef, especially when so much was used, and the smell was quite overpowering. It was all wrapped up in a steamed cabbage leaf, which had all the vegetables apart from potato. The gravy also was so thick; it was like dark treacle with a thick skin on it when it arrived. The service also was quite slapdash.

Cafe Cru Restaurant (Great Yarmouth)

What a great meal we had at Cafe Cru; the food was cooked to perfection with an excellent wine list, and a great new atmosphere. We loved the music, and will certainly be back again.

St. Clement's (Hastings)

We visited for lunch on Friday. I started with the excellent Hastings fishcakes; both my friends had fish soup, which they said was as good as any. For my main I had the belly pork, which was as soft as butter and was served with mashed potato and a jus that matched the sweet pork perfectly. My friends had the shoulder of lamb, which they both agreed was great. For dessert we chose the tiramisu, which was not up to the standard of the other courses. In summary, the setting was okay although parking was difficult as we dined there on a Friday at lunchtime. Service was good and the food mainly excellent. The total bill was £75 for the four of us, and considering the quality of the food, it was not at all bad value for money.

Lal Haweli Restaurant (Manchester)

We went to Lal Haweli few days ago. We are a family of six and the service was excellent; 10/10. We had three children with us, and we had no problem with the food. The prices are reasonable. Believe me you should go there because the service and food were good. The waiters were very helpful with the kids. This is a great restaurant, go there with your families or even alone.

Trishna London (Mayfair, Soho & Fringes)

I've read mixed reviews on this restaurant, mainly positive, but a few strange one off negative ones. So obviously I then had to visit it for myself. I have only one word to describe it – delicious. It was light, fresh and tasty, especially the squid. The atmosphere was relaxed and the members of staff were warm and friendly. It is highly recommended for those who love seafood.

Olive Press - Cheadle Hulme (Bramhall)

We ate there on a cold, wet Friday after Christmas shopping at John Lewis. The Olive Press is a nice looking restaurant situated on a main road. We chose the seared tuna starter, which had just the right tingle of chilli to warm up the dish, cooked well done as requested and delicious. I chose the lasagne as a main course; my wife went for the pan fried gnocchi, which is a vegetarian option from the varied Olive Press menu. Both dishes were tasty and beautifully cooked, we had side orders of fries and deep fried courgettes, and these were good sized portions and equally tasty. We finished with a chocolate amarone with strawberries and coffee, which were superb. It was nothing short of fantastic with good service from the friendly staff.

Amigos (Leeds)

We had a dreadful meal. A party of eight of us went and all agreed that the best dish was the calamari, which was soggy on the outside and chewy on the inside and also says a lot about the rest. What is more the staff were rude and arrogant, although the table next to us seemingly got even worse service. We were very disappointed and would not recommend them. Others that I subsequently spoke to about the place had also had a bad experience.
