Wildebeest Arms, The (Stoke Holy Cross)

I was looking forward to a meal at the Wildebeest, after hearing such good feedback from friends and family. It's a forty-five minute drive, and after arriving fifteen minutes early, we were shown to our table. We then waited for some time and had to call for a waitress to take the drinks order. When we didn't receive the drinks, we had to summon the waitress again to bring the drinks over. No one had bothered to see if we'd finished the drinks, and take our starters order. I began to feel as if we were being ignored especially as other customers were being served food and drink by the smiling staff. After twenty minutes the starters didn’t arrive, no one apologised for the delay and in fact no interaction whatsoever from any of the staff. By this point my friends and I were hungry and annoyed at the lack of respect. We begrudgingly paid for the drinks and left, but experienced no food whatsoever.

Gazette - Balham (South of the River - West)

We went there for dinner last week and it was fantastic - great service and food. We went again for brunch on Sunday and it was disappointing. They claim to offer gluten-free options but served toast with my meal, when I asked for it to be removed. When I sent it back the same dish was returned without the toast, but with the crumbs. My friends had finished eating and were ready to go by the time the meal was finally returned. I wonder how they could add a service charge to our bill.

Gazette (South of the River - West)

My husband and I visited Gazette a number of times since moving to Clapham last year. Its location is rather obscure but really worth the effort. The food, wine and service have been fantastic every time we have been there and seem to get better. I’d highly recommend this superb restaurant.

Dove Inn (Faversham)

A recent meal I had there with my wife was an extremely pleasurable experience in terms of service and food. This place, which is under a new management since October 2007, has considerably improved since our last visit. The new menu was innovative and our meals confirmed this. All in all, an excellent evening, which we hope will be repeated soon.

New Mayflower (Mayfair, Soho & Fringes)

My thirteen year old daughter and I went to see Blue Man Group and the cab driver recommended New Mayflower. The food was satisfactory, not exceptional, but the service was great, and the staff made my daughter feel special. We had a great ‘mum and daughter’ experience. I recommend this restaurant for the sheer mystery of who else you might meet in there. We did not, but it did not stop us from looking.

Restaurant at Salthouse Harbour Hotel (Ipswich)

The food was overpriced and portions were small. They didn’t have a separate menu for children and our son took the offer of chicken and chips, which he could not eat as the chips were overcooked. Parking could be a problem and it appears that their car park cannot house all visitors.

Ferry, The (Cookham)

I had an old friend turn up on the doorstep today, went to The Ferry as I had heard good reports. We started off sitting in the restaurant due to no space outside. We ordered our food and a table became available outside so we politely asked if we could move outside, and were told we would have to settle the bill if we wanted to sit outside! I paid the bill and ate the food, all three of us had the spit roast chicken, which was nothing special and at a cost of £10.50 I would have expected a little better. The place has an amazing setting, but I thought the service was a tad un-professional and the food mediocre. I found the bar service slow too.

Kalpna Restaurant (Edinburgh)

We went to Kalpna Restaurant in Edinburgh yesterday and had an unpleasant dining experience owing to a strange rule that they tend to impose on their customers. There were four adults and two children in our group and because some of us weren’t really hungry, we ordered two starters and three main courses. I was taken aback on being told by the waiter that we will not be served any food until we ordered one more main course because it was their rule. When we asked to see the manager, he simply sent the word reinforcing the ‘rule’ through the waiter rather than coming to our table. We tried to explain that whatever we had ordered would be enough for us but they were not willing to listen to us. I am totally perplexed by this attitude.

Restaurant at The Fountain Inn (Tenbury Wells)

I was looking forward to my meal as the pub had won several awards. Sadly, the fishcakes were tasteless, the steak was average and I felt the staff could have been more polite.

Restaurant at The Fountain Inn (Tenbury Wells)

It was very disappointing. The attitude of the staff and the food could have been a lot better.
