Koo Japanese Restaurant (Ludlow)

This was my first visit to a Japanese restaurant. The menu was varied, service was excellent and the price was reasonable. The food was utterly delicious and this place is one to return to time and again.

San Carlo - Leicester (Leicester)

I recently visited Leicester on business, and had heard some negative reviews about the city. So when looking for a nice place to dine for the evening, I stumbled across San Carlo and was surprised, considering the poor reviews, at how glamorous the restaurant appeared. It was pretty much full, and I was in two minds as to whether I should attempt to get served, when a friendly Italian young man beamed at me through the door and then opened it widely, gesturing to come in. He assured me my food would arrive in ‘no time at all’ in his Italian slurs, and so I took a seat. My food order was taken before I’d barely sat down, and another waiter had taken my wine order after helping me choose a nice white to accompany my meal. Sure enough, my food arrived in record time, and was presented beautifully. It was a really great meal – the portion size was perfect and it tasted great. I was very pleased with my choice of restaurant and to all those people who think Leicester doesn’t have much going for it - go, if only to try San Carlo.

Wackers Fish and Chip Restaurant (York)

I went to Wackers on Sunday just before the rush. I would just like to say how friendly the members of staff were and the food was extra special. Thank you. Jill and Dave.

Bird on the Rock Tearoom (Craven Arms)

This is the finest tearoom in England. And yes, I have probably visited all the tearooms in England. It’s worth a significant detour.

Murillo's Spanish Restaurant & Marple Tapas Wine Bar (Marple)

I am Spanish myself, and went to Murillo Tapas Wine Bar to check it out before inviting my English friends and one thing I can tell you, they made me feel proud of being a Spaniard. Without any doubt it is the finest Spanish restaurant in Cheshire, if not in England - great food, location and atmosphere. The owner Felix and his wife Heather with Emily, their future daughter-in-law at front of the house made me feel very welcome, and the rest of the guys were superb, especially the Barman Nick. However, the heart of the place is Simon, their son and the chef. His food is fantastic. I will be going there as a regular from now on.

Outsider Restaurant, The (Edinburgh)

We went to The Outsider on Wednesday for dinner before going to see Paulo Nutini. The food was fantastic and we shared a squid salad to start, which was just gorgeous, followed by sword fish, and a chicken and prawn kebab - both were gorgeous. We cannot wait to return.

Pizza Express - Beverley (Beverley)

My husband and I went in for an early Sunday evening meal. We were seated around two large parties of people upstairs. We found it so noisy that we couldn’t hear what the other was saying. The members of staff were really good and moved us to a table downstairs but we still felt it was noisy and that everyone was seated on top of each other. This Pizza Express is a great place for children and groups but not recommended for couples.

Strada - Salisbury (Salisbury)

This is a really good Italian restaurant, which refreshingly does more than just pasta and pizza, like so many others. The atmosphere is very good, and most members of staff are friendly and attentive. The menu is varied and has a lot to offer. The complimentary water is also much appreciated. All the food that I have tried from the menu has been delicious, very fresh tasting, good portions and well presented. Prices are reasonable and the lunchtime offer is very good. Well worth a visit.

Slug and Lettuce - Salisbury (Salisbury)

I have been there on many occasions – there is a varied menu, good service and mainly, good food. On all occasions the members of staff have been attentive and friendly. No more so than on the one occasion where we had a problem with our meal. The waitress was very apologetic and offered us a replacement meal and also took some off the bill, which we were happy with. The only problem was that the replacement meal took a very long time to come out. Apart from this one occasion, the food has been lovely, something a little different from many other pub chains. The prices are quite reasonable and are good in the evenings for drinks, etc.

Hox Brasserie (Salisbury)

I have visited this restaurant several times, in both a group and as a couple. On all the occasions the food and service has been great. The atmosphere is really good, the restaurant itself being beautifully decorated and laid out. Strange to say the cutlery is really cool as well. The service is very good, quick, efficient and professional. The members of staff are helpful and attentive. The food itself is just delicious, although for some of the items the portion sizes are quite small. All dishes beautifully presented.
