We stumbled upon this gem of a restaurant quite by chance and have now returned twice with another visit being planned. At first the menu gave us a clue that this was ‘no run of the mill’ establishment but one where thought and originality has gone into every detail. The cooking is precise, flavours well balanced and well presented. The £10 lunch menu defies description for value and quality but our sights are set on the tasting menu. We wonder why is the place is not packed for lunch and dinner?

A casual lunch party on a quiet Friday at the end of November may not be the most demanding test for a restaurant. Nonetheless, it was a really impressive performance. The food and the friendly and knowledgeable service were outstanding. The entire experience was outstanding. I hesitate to submit that kind of recommendation lest it attracts hordes, service deteriorates and prices increase. However, we all need to ensure that, after the flood, the restaurant faces a certain future. We would want to return - often.

It’s quite outstanding by any Michelin standards in Paris or London. I have eaten five times, the last ten days ago. Again, exceptional service and the food was at least Michelin one star edging towards two. It has excellent wine list, which you can negotiate to your benefit with the help of your hostess. My only concern is that if they get Michelin star reservations, it may be more difficult to come by.

Allium is vibrant, cool with a welcoming ambiance. Our liaison with the owners Erica and James is important to our students and local community. Their staff are polite and knowledgeable. The food is of a very high standard and outstanding quality. The use of local produce ensures excellent links in the community. They are in a league of their own. We are indeed privileged to have such expertise on our doorstep!

We ate here last night for my birthday and it was sublime. The service; the food; everything. And well priced. It was all perfect. I can't believe my husband found such a fantastic place!

We have had lunch twice at this lovely restaurant. The food was quite outstanding. We ate their under special offer prices and in no way were they cooking to a price as has been our experience in some places. Everything about Allium was quite perfect.

Allium is an excellent restaurant. Its staff provide a perfect blend of fine service, quality food, an interesting wine list with the focus on careful attention to detail. The ambience is warm and friendly - no pretension here, just an honest desire to please and excel. It is almost certainly the best restaurant in the area and I've only just discovered it. I aim to return as often as possible before word of its excellence spreads and it becomes impossibly busy.

Rare to visit a restaurant that pleases in all areas; this is one that both surprised and pleased. The restaurant is in a lovely building in a lovely setting on the Square of this pretty town. The decor and layout are attractive and the welcome and attention were excellent.

The food was quite simply superb. I ate a delightful taster of soft goats cheese in an "ice cream cone" with chutney; a perfect risotto as a side dish to a soft boiled egg surrounded with a perfect coating of lightly breaded smoked haddock; a simple pan fried fillet of salmon; and a wide range of delicious cheeses followed by coffee with home made chocolates.

My twin brother and his wife recently returned from living in Europe and declared it the best meal they had eaten since they returned.
