We went there on Friday night. The starter was out of this world and I was tempted to call it a night, as nothing could surpass that, but then came the main course - the lamb. There's something in those potatoes that makes them come alive - they were fantastic, and the lamb, perfectly cooked. Then the dessert, I had the chocolate one - again top marks. Overall I'd give it 10/10.

We went to The Angel for our last anniversary and we couldn’t be happier with it. The food and the service is excellent, and the best is the slow pace of the place - you can really relax and enjoy your meal without the waiters trying to turn over tables. I highly recommend it and we will be back.

My husband treated me to a lovely meal at the Angel recently. I thoroughly enjoyed my glass of Taittinger in the bar where we chatted to the friendly staff. I couldn’t decide what to eat. I could have chosen any one of the delicious sounding dishes that were shown on the menu. Richard, the manager, was happy to talk to us about his wine list and his love for wine. It was very informative and unpretentious.

There is no question that the food there is very good. However we found the service very disappointing. Having booked a table for a celebration dinner we had to wait twenty minutes before being asked for our drinks order and the delay between first and second courses was over half an hour. Simply put there were not enough staff to deal with the fully booked restaurant. We shall not be going again.

Although the majority of the menu resides on the blackboards above the bar (to allow for an ever changing menu) don't forget to take a peek at the printed menu - there are some treats to be had from both. Food is very well done, with an emphasis on fish (with some interesting twists). Staff are friendly and efficient. Wine list covers most tastes (and prices), and is well matched to the cooking. Not to be missed.
