The food there is generally good but sadly the service on Saturday night was pitifully slow again. This is a shame because our waitress was friendly and helpful, although I still don't think tossing new potatoes in butter can be described as sautéing.

I took my girlfriend there on our first date, then on our six month anniversary, and we are back there again next week for our one year anniversary, as it’s a very nice place.

Two of my friends, and I ate at this restaurant on Saturday night. The restaurant has a very nice 'feel' to it, and we were seated immediately. The food was very good. Two of us had mussels as a starter, and we struggled to finish them as the portions were huge. They were delicious though. The main courses were also good and plentiful, and we couldn't manage a pudding. The wine menu had a good selection. There was a large party going on when we were there, but the service was not lacking because of it. However, our only complaint is that the members of staff need to communicate with each other more. We were asked the same question on at least three separate occasions by different members of staff. That was of course better than being ignored, but it did get annoying. On the whole, the meal was very good, and was also reasonably priced. We will be going back there again.

I had a meal there with three friends on Saturday evening. The restaurant is above the bar, and is modern, well lit and has a good ambience. The service was slow, but the waiters were polite and helpful. As I only had a salad I cannot really comment on the quality of the food, but my companions seemed happy with their meals, and my salad was certainly acceptable.

Six weeks prior to my wife’s thirtieth birthday we booked a table for 20 after hearing good reviews. The staff checked our booking, confirmed, and asked us to pre order our food two weeks prior to the night to help them serve all the meals together. We therefore visited the restaurant the next day to collect a menu, the waitress was lovely and said all would be taken care of and again confirmed our booking. Three weeks later we had a phone call from the restaurant telling us that they were cancelling our booking as we had been double booked with another party that had booked the entire restaurant and therefore, could not fit us in. This I found this surprising as our booking was checked twice and I somehow feel that we have been passed over for a better offer. My wife phoned up very upset at the amount of planning and emailing she had put into the event for them to cancel and all she was offered in a way of an apology was 10% discount of our next meal. Suffice it to say that we will not be going back or recommending them to anyone. It is an unprofessional restaurant.

I really enjoyed our dinner, and I had the duck which was gorgeous. It was presented very nicely. My companion had the steak and even though she asked for it cooked well, it was very tender and delicious. We would definitely return as our service was very good.

It’s excellent place for any day off the week. The bar is really cosy and service is first-rate, the restaurant upstairs is just suitable for all, friends, couples and family, the manager with a beard is charming and always very cheery, I would. Good pick of music, the moules served there are always great, odd evening with bad food has never happened to me.

Review by H Baines (24 September 2007)

Nice bar and pleasant place to sit but the food very poor and extremely disappointing. I had mussels which was okay, nothing special and a risotto, which was very rich and bland. My husband's beef looked burnt and I was surprised that they were happy to serve this up to a customer. We didn't complain, as by this time, it was late and we were hungry. The service was poor despite the best efforts of the waitresses who were very sweet but this was a bit chaotic as we had four different waiters at one point. Wines were very average for the prices charged and my white wine came at room temperature, and I had to ask for a chilled one, it was typically English. I would not return.

The bar is lovely and so is the restaurant. Anyone who thinks the food is boring and dull doesn't know good quality food. The garlic prawns are perfect. Great wine list. Although it can be very busy downstairs in the bar, upstairs is quiet and romantic and not just because it’s not busy. I have been there when it’s been very busy and it still as romantic as ever. A wider chose of menu would be the only thing it would comment them down on. Other than that, a lovely and romantic place to eat. Can't wait to go again.

Everything was fine until the food arrived. Dull, insipid, tasteless, lacking flavour, all of these adjectives mean the same so maybe the easiest way to sum up the meals served would be to say they were just plain boring. It was as if they had been lifted off a conveyor belt. They lacked culinary flare.

I felt that at over £40 per head we had been ripped off and perhaps that explains why they were so quiet on a Friday night!!
