My wife and I booked a table for her birthday. The food we had, as always was of the highest standard. The service was good, all three courses on the table at the right time. The main meal was hot, so good. In fact we have booked again for Christmas. It’s for a family of twenty. Keep up the good work.

My wife and I went there last night for our wedding anniversary. We both had the scallop starters, which were good but for £8 each I would have expected more than four scallops. My wife's main course was the coconut chicken salad, which was gougons of chicken, a bit dry in the centre as though it had been overcooked but adequate. Her salad however was swamped with oil as was mine. Why they can't let you put your own dressing on I don't know. The big disaster and con was my dressed crab salad. Within a crab shell was pink goo reminiscent of Thousand Island dressing with a few small pieces of crab floating in it. What little crab there was had no taste as it was swamped by the huge quantity of dressing. Not by anyone's definition a dressed crab and not very good at £11 a go. I complained about the crab at the end (I am not a complainer) but no one came to apologise/explain or talk to us at all (not very professional). We won't be going there again.

The interior of the inn is astonishingly innovative as well as comfortable. Warm welcome from friendly young barman from Melbourne on arrival, less so from restaurant manager, asking my husband to remove his hat before he had the opportunity to so himself (who eats wearing a hat?!).

Friendly waiting staff. Food a bit hit and miss - my father's beer battered haddock was crispy, light and tasty, with exceptional pea puree. My husband and I had the spit roast chicken, which came with a mean serving of aioli, and the sprig of thyme dropped on the side of the plate needed to be in the sauce. Hard chips. The wine list is good.

If all our meals had been good, we would visit every week. The pricing means that having two meals that are not up to standard we would not return. Yes, you can ask for the problem to be put right, but then the party is not all dining together, and it is not a hassle free lunch.

Review by Andrew Johns (30 April 2007)

My wife and I attended a business lunch in January 2007. Although the food was only adequate, we found the service exceptional. We were one of many in the restaurant, but the young lady serving us was very attentive, professional and extremely friendly. When we made our way through to the bar for after lunch drinks, the Australian bar man seemed thrilled to see us, and after purchasing our drinks, we engaged on a wonderful discussion about the cricket. He was attractive (as my wife continually tells me) but not arrogant, as so many youngsters these days, and had a wit like I've never heard before. He had clearly been working at the pub for a while, as when I enquired about the history of the place, he gave me a well informed and interesting answer. I was pleased to see that the staff also had a good relationship amongst themselves, and was thrilled to see that he and the young lady from the restaurant were a happy couple. The only downside I found about my visit to the Inn, was when I discovered that these two were heading off to Australia in March. In conclusion, I have become a regular to The Barnt Green Inn, and hope that the rest of the service will pick up to be as good as that provided by these two ideal workers.

Celebrated my son's thirtieth birthday, so the restaurant had to cope with a party of ten at lunch time. The food was excellent - good variety and presentation. Service was attentive at first, although by the coffee course the staff had forgotten we were there. Nevertheless my wife and I are going to celebrate our wedding anniversary there tonight!

Went there today, sat down had a drink after 25 minutes it took us to be asked what we would like to eat we were fed up so we paid for the drinks and left. Poor service so they lost out on business, I wouldn’t return and wouldn’t recommend any one to go there.

Been three times so far and each time was superb. The food was excellent, on time and all the staff seemed focused on making sure you genuinely had a good time and enjoyed your meal.
