Excellent food and service, freshly cooked dishes stand out from the usual mass produced Indian restaurant fare. Sunday buffet is excellent value.

Review by Fred Benson (15 October 2008)

I went there on a moderately busy Saturday night with my girlfriend in November 2007. We both enjoyed the meal up to a point. However, the service deteriorated rapidly once the bill had been paid, and a tip had been left. We had only been in there for an hour and a half, and were finishing our bottle of wine when three of the waiters, quite aggressively, forced us to move tables to accommodate another booking of eight people. We were made to feel quite uncomfortable by the waiters while we finished off our wine, which spoilt the whole experience. If you do go there don't pay up until you have finished everything.

This must be the worst Indian food I have ever tasted - poor standard and quality, and so overpriced. The meat was bland and tasteless in a tomato soup with a pinch of garam masala.

Cannot believe this is one of the top thirty Indian restaurants in the UK! We were very disappointed with the overall experience. We chose the special 'sizzling chicken and mushroom Korai' - it was not sizzling and did not contain much in the way of chicken and very little mushroom. We also chose the 'Lamb Dhansak' in which the lamb was very tough. We left half the meal and highlighted this to the manager who was very abrupt, when we had told him of the quality of the food in our area. We left very disappointed.

The most charming thing about the restaurant is the staff, they are helpful, courteous and friendly. There is no air of quality and pride. I have only eaten there once, I chose a speciality dish and ate alone as I was in York on business and didn't fancy the hotel food. The food was delicious and the service impeccable. I felt as though the staff made a special effort as I was eating alone, but I soon realised that they were helpful and kind to every customer.

I would not hesitate in recommending the restaurant to anyone. The restaurant is small and cosy, without being cramped and the food tasted fresh, and you could tell that each dish was prepared fresh for you. It is no wonder that the restaurant won the top thirty Indian restaurant award in 2005, this accolade was truly deserved.

You know how most Indian restaurants are. Reasonable, tasty, OK for a bit of lads’ night out. This place is different. The dishes seem miles from the basic raw ingredients into the bought in sauces that so many seem to serve night after night.

The meals we have eaten here have very fresh ingredients prepared and served with care. Indian meals where each fork full has slightly different flavours rather than the usual 'omni sauce' flavour. The chef's specials are, to me, the highlight of the meals available.

There is also a help yourself buffet on Sundays but the a la carte menu is much, much better. Try it; I don't think you'll find many that try harder to please with their food.
