We booked an early table prior to a performance at the Royal Albert Hall and were thoroughly impressed. The food was excellent and the service was impeccable, both friendly and efficient.

This restaurant was highly recommended, so we were surprised to be a little disappointed. Starters were excellent. A fancily named tart, quiche by any other description, was light and tasty. Seared scallops were excellent. Unfortunately, the sauce in which the main course cod was served, along with a bed of cabbage, tasted identical to that which accompanied the scallops. A side order of mashed potatoes only arrived belatedly and was not hot.

The sirloin steak was charred and tough when medium to well done had been requested. Service seemed a little disinterested and, once the wine had been opened, it was left in the bucket with no effort being made to replenish glasses. No attempt was made to find if we were satisfied, although I would not have spoiled the evening by complaining. The bill was in the region of £120 for two without sweet or coffee or liqueurs. For the money, I expected rather better.

I think this little gem has been changed. The menu has improved 100% and the room has a more professional, grown up feel to it. The pricing is a bit more than what was stated, with our meals averaging about £35 - £40 per head - but I must say well worth every bit!!

I had dinner before the theatre and returned afterwards for a relaxed and wonderful dessert and coffee. I would say that anyone would find this a vibrant and lovely place to dine at any time at all. I will certainly be back to sample the Brunch menu as well!! Oh yes, I was very impressed with the wine lists as well! Give it a try, you will be pleasantly surprised.

The unusual name of 'The Frozen Mop' is reputed to come from a local legend involving a cleaner and a cold winter's night, but apparently there are several versions of the story and the real attribution ...
