After reading reviews, I was intrigued to visit the Black Boys Inn and see what it was all about, when I arrived I understood. The food was spectacular, with an extensive wine list I had many options - a beautiful bottle of Saint Emilion was what it had to be. Loved the evening, the food was a triumph and I shall definitely be coming again soon.

As somebody who enjoys dining both out and at home, I'm a very a keen cook, I do look at detail and am quite critical. However, from the moment we walked in through the door until the moment we left we were totally spoiled by a team dedicated to my making our experience perfect. The food was quite simply out of this world. Every dish was perfectly presented - my son commented that each was the work of an artist - and the flavours were all individual and so interesting that they provoked discussion and extended savour.

This is a great garden area with lovely views for a drink before dinner. The menu is interesting and reasonably priced and the restaurant is so pretty. The service is great and they could not be more helpful.

The food and service at Black Boys Inn restored my faith in English restaurants. The menu was interesting and well thought out, the quality of ingredients and cooking was as good as you would find anywhere. The service was attentive, knowledgeable and passionate, and made sure my guests and I had a truly wonderful dinner.

The food is excellent and I would love to have returned if it had not been for the kind of service we received from the waiter. He announced early on to trust him as he was a solicitor - not sure why. He refused to give my friend the lamb as she wanted it well done. When she ordered the beef instead he advised her to order the fish as beef should not be prepared well done. We finally persuaded him to give her the beef. On asking for extra bread and olive oil the more mature waitress reluctantly served us.

I obviously overstepped the mark though by asking apparently too many questions about the French cheese board, I love my cheese and am always interested in learning more. The waiter responded with ‘you need to get a life dear - life is too short’. I did advise the manageress why I was not leaving a service charge for the first time ever as I object to be called ‘dear’ and to ‘get a life’ but was just met with a sullen stare. If you go there, don't rock the boat and you will have a good time.

What a wonderful place - full of character, warmth, and style! The staff are welcoming and the food is superb. In my opinion, this is a first rate place to eat and relax.

A very upmarket looking restaurant, the food was to die for and the waitress was very attentive. I visited them with my husband and friends on a Thursday night and the restaurant was much busier than a lot of other places around.

I would definitely recommend booking a table as it was worth every penny.

Visiting on a chilly evening, we were greeted with low beams, candle-lit tables, a large open fire, and most importantly, a fantastically warm welcome, creating surroundings that I would describe as cosy, unpretentious, and elegant. The menu was not too small and not too large, so you know everything is fresh and the portions were generous. The slight downside was that their choice of beers is quite limited, although the wine list made up for this. I would be happy to go there again.

I visited the Inn recently with my family and friends. The food was passable although I thought it was overpriced. I think the owner can definitely be warmer and more welcoming. I wondered if we were not dressed smartly enough for him, or perhaps my accent did not impress. I have eaten out in many places, both in this country and abroad, and I dislike service like this. I shall not return. This was not at all a relaxing place to share a meal with friends.

We visited the Black Boys Inn for Sunday lunch. The beef was succulent, full of flavour and good value for money. This standard continued right through until the dessert. My husband was like a ‘child in a sweet shop’ when he saw the wine list, which I am informed is something special, apparently everyone else thought so as waitresses were dashing past us, the whole time, with copious bottles of the stuff. The waiting staff were jolly and sweetly put us on a table by the log fire to warm up as we had just arrived after a rather blustery walk along the Thames. There was a lovely ambience in the restaurant and we had an enjoyable lunch. I will surely find another reason to go.
