My boyfriend and I had a gorgeous dinner there. Everything was cooked to perfection and the staff were excellent. My boyfriend did say that the portions were small, but I found three courses very filling - depends what you're used to, I expect. Definitely recommended.

My wife and I ate at the restaurant 3 weeks ago for the first time after overhearing a conversation in the street between two couples. We were luckily found a table and enjoyed everything from the decor, ambience and fine music through to the wonderful food made even nicer due to the fact that all ingredients are sourced as locally and seasonally. My wife has said she would like to celebrate her 40th birthday with a meal at Blackfriars.

I had a working lunch here on Monday afternoon and I’ll definitely be going back soon. My starter of smoked salmon was gorgeous and main of sausages and mash was so comforting. We were in and out within an hour, without feeling rushed and at £15 for two courses and a glass of wine it was really reasonable. This is the perfect place to escape from work in your lunch hour!

Thank you to Sue and everyone at Blackfriars. We celebrated my sons 18th birthday and had a truly wonderful evening. The food was excellent and the chocolate birthday cake created by Dave, the head chef brought a perfect evening to a close. I will visit again and highly recommend Blackfriars. Thank you once again.

Fourteen of us went for a colleague's 40th birthday treat on Friday night. The setting was great but the service was very slow. The food tasted nice, but the portions were tiny as compared to the price. My chicken came with a small portion of mashed potato and no other vegetable. My wife's main was salmon, which was presented with vegetables but no carbohydrates. We would not rush back to Blackfriars.

We visited for a friend’s birthday! It was a very quiet restaurant in the terms of atmosphere. The starters were very disappointing. Nothing I personally liked however the complimentary soup was very good. Main meals were delicious however the vegetarian option was not enjoyed. The service was okay, one waitress was lovely. I would visit again if prices were lowered and if I wanted a quiet evening.

My boyfriend and I went to Blackfriars for my 25th Birthday. I can’t compliment this restaurant enough. To its customer service and how fantastic the food was. I asked for soup for a starter even though it was listed on the menu and my request was granted. What a refreshing restaurant. The price was a little expensive, but as they say you get for what you pay for, and in this case it was true.

We had our wedding reception here last year. It was only for family and a few close friends and they let us book the whole restaurant for the evening. The staff were fantastic, taking everything at our pace. We brought our own music including a couple of nephews playing live. Nothing was a problem for the staff. Food was great - they basically cooked whatever we asked for - and made last minute changes without any complaint. Location is fantastic - centre of Newcastle but like a world of its own. Can't recommend it enough!

The best thing about Blackfriars was the staff. The ladies who lunch and myself were welcomed with warmth, the service was excellent and the staff were friendly. Then to top it all off the food (and wine) were excellent. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone.

The food is well presented and of good quality. My party of four, however, were disappointed by the size of the portions. Even by fine dining standards, the portions were very much on the small side. I have dined at their sister restaurant, Sidney's, a number of times as well and am of the opinion that the service and quality of food are better there.
