Malmaison: pricey but pleasant, this quayside brasserie is well worth a visit from those who like their food to be 'cuisine' and don't mind paying for the privilege. The service is rather slow but the staff are excellent and the decor is plush and comfortable. The pommes lyonnaise come highly recommended!

Mr. Chubb's review just goes to show that you shouldn't take one person's word as Gospel - personal taste is a very unreliable thing. I would say make your own mind up about this restaurant - it definitely deserves a visit. My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful evening at the Brasserie just 3 weeks before Mr. Chubb's disappointing experience and I can honestly say the food and service were both excellent. I had an Aberdeen Angus steak that was cooked to perfection, and yes, I had the thick chips, and they were great too!
The wine was a very good Rioja - and not overpriced for the quality.
Service from a smashing Geordie waitress was friendly and efficient and I didn’t spot anything “pretentious” or false about the entire place. To top it all – we had a window seat and got to see the beautiful Millennium Bridge opening as the sun went down – what a spectacular backdrop to a meal! Ten out of ten for Malmaison.

Extremely pretentious with a daft name and for all that did French at school does this not translate as
The "Ill House"? The menu is full of dishes that sound great but are just a twist on your run-of-the-mill fare.
I had what was best described as chicken, chips and veg
which had been described quite elaborately on the menu.
The chips came about an inch thick and stacked in rows to form a cube, what that was all about I will never know!
Food was nice but not worth the price. Stay clear of ordering dinks as they are obscenely over priced! Three courses and a bottle of wine plus coffees and a liqueur and you will be lucky to see change out of £70! May appeal to the more money than sense brigade or people with Platinum cards!
