We love Browns. That is the place to be in Windsor, especially at the weekend. If it's your birthday, the chef gives you a dessert as a pressie, with a candle in it! The general atmosphere is buzzing and it is a great place to start your night before you head into town to go clubbing. The friendly staff, coupled with the delicious (albeit, sometimes a little pricy) food makes for an enjoyable experience. The bar staff are super friendly too, considering they're rushed off their feet most of the night. I would definitely recommend the restaurant/bar to anyone who loves fun. The food tastes good and if you have to wait a little while whilst they cook it on busy nights then fair play. You've got guests to socialise with anyway - hello?!

When Browns opened in Windsor I was initially delighted. Somewhere lively, bright and breezy was exactly what that spot needed - taking advantage of its size, the fantastic views over the river, and an ideal meeting point.

It started with so much promise: the food was great, the drinks menu wide (a bit pricey but understandably), and the atmosphere wonderful.

Unfortunately, I would agree with other reviewers' comments about the food going very downhill. Too many occasions of the fish pie being still frozen in the centre and bad, gristly cuts of steak means that we now give this previously-favoured restaurant a wide birth.

Big shame guys, you had a winning formula and then forgot what it was all about.

As a local resident we often pop in to Browns with friends, family, collegues and clients for drinks and noticed they have an amazing wine on their list. The wine in question is Devil's Lair 5th Leg, It is often out of stock understandably as it is so popular. Last night to our surprise they had some in so we decided to dine there favouring a local restaurant we are regulars in. It was my partner’s birthday so seeing as they had his favourite wine this seemed to be the ideal choice. Unfortunately this did not prove to be the evening we had hoped for.

Firstly the maitre d was rude and did not even acknowledge us. We were ignored on more than one occasion when trying to order drinks from him. This would have been ignored if the whole evening didn't turn out to be as bad. The starter arrived cold, soggy ...........barely touched.

The mains, a fillet of beef on my half, supposedly medium turned up cremated. My favourite dish usually but on this occasion could only be described as a lump of ****. My partners dish was not any better.

The dessert........fine, but then how much damage can you do to a chocolate brownie? Our waiter I must say was brilliant. A young French man from Lyon. He clearly shared the same passion as I do for good food and good wine. A real credit to the establishment.

So basically to sum up Browns....... expensive pub grub! Overpriced and poor quality, a real disappointment.

Food not bad, however the location and the Strawberry Daquari's are more than worth it. I aim to sit up on the balcony, perfect for a lazy Saturday afternoon. Beware, the place can get very very busy.

Came down from up North to meet a date who suggested Brown's at Windsor as being a nice place to meet for a drink and a nice meal. Certainly, service was fine, atmosphere was relaxed, while the colonial style decor, bright sun and the odd fly trying to taste our food almost made me feel we could've been in a more southern part of the commonwealth, if it weren't for all the Brits around, obviously.

Anyway, I ordered sea bass with fennel and "red onion glaze”. I usually only eat full flavoured eastern cuisine, Indian and Chinese mainly, so that may be why this simple dish felt too bland, perhaps my chilli and garlic ravaged palette cannot appreciate a subtle combo of sea bass and fennel, though it seemed to me the sea bass was slightly over cooked, under seasoned and had a few bones in it. I like fish to have the skin crisped and the flesh barely cooked, which is how I cook it at home. I chose the dish precisely because I’d never eaten either ingredient, and I have to say, criticism of the cooking of the fish apart, the flavour combination of aniseedy fennel and creamy sea bass did grow on me. The menu had plenty of varied dishes, my companion had rump of lamb in a cheesy sauce, which she quite liked. I would go again, because the service and atmosphere means I think it worth taking another chance on another dish.

Great atmosphere with a great cocktail selection. The food however is very disappointing. I would recommend it if you are just going out for a drink but not for a full dinner.

Sorry, but it's plastic food in a plastic restaurant. The bar is lively with the beautiful poseurs of Windsor.

The restaurant is typical of Brown's good style (although slim on the veggie options!) with a lovely decked balcony and veranda for summer eating and drinking. The bar gets very crowded at the weekends but has a good atmosphere.
