I honestly thought that we had died and gone to heaven. I just got back from a fantastic three days on the island. The food is absolutley divine and the staff are so obliging, what a refreshing change. This truly is a gem of a place and if you are unable to stay at the hotel you should at least try to make it for dinner. It’s a gastronomical experience and at half the price. We will definitely be returning.

We tried to book a table at this restaurant for Sunday lunch however the restaurant does not allow children under 12. This is good news for all you single people, but a real pain for those of us with children who still like to eat at nice restaurants. I can understand not allowing children for dinner, but it seems strange at lunch time.

A hotel that embodies all that I thought hotels were when I was a kid, service, style, dressing for dinner, pre dinner cocktails and divine food to name just a few of the highlights of the venue.
We stayed over two nights and enjoyed a beautifully varied menu, with a generous helping of seafood present in each one. Dinner began with Asian influenced canapés....chilli spiced calamari with sesame seeds, prawn and cashew nut pancake rolls and soy sauce, chicken satay, etc, etc. A perfect palate enticement, especially when coupled with the cocktails. Menus were delivered with 6 choices for starters and main courses each eloquently described, and when delivered to table perfectly seasoned, sauced, garnished and finished.
The highlights for our party were, starters, a stunning poached duck egg with smoked eel, crisp veal sweetbread with king prawns and scallop tempura. Of the main courses, our resident foodie, restaurateur and travelled man - Paul, declared the venison as the finest meal he had tasted, ever. Others delighted in John Dory with a light, subtle sauce, Red Mullet devilled with a thai based green lime curry and Sea Bass seared and finished with a red pepper velouté. Desserts were more perfunctory, however, staple cheeses, soufflé and crème brûlée were not disappointing. I loved it, and would never resist the chance to return.

My partner and I stayed at Burgh Island last year and the experience really made us feel as if we were back in the 1920s; the hotel and the food were STUNNING. We shall be returning again!

The hotel experience is magical and the food enjoyment is second to none. It is a place you have to return to.

We have had the pleasure of eating both lunch and dinner at the Burgh Island Hotel. The food is as good was we have tasted anywhere in the world, and the presentation and surroundings make for truly excellent and unique experience.
A stay at the hotel is recommended to fully appreciate the art deco surroundings and for not having to worry about the tide to return to the mainland.
