I love Italian cuisine and have been to most of Italian restaurants in Guildford, Woking, and nearby. However, this restaurant is totally different. The service is excellent like it should be, the atmosphere in the restaurant is impressively relaxing and gorgeous due to the best and welcoming service, light music, 16th century building interior, and most of the guests follow the dress code! The main thing - you would love everything you order from the menu.

We made a last minute reservation at La Capanna for 9pm. On arrival, we were shown in the main restaurant room but they managed to find us a table outside in the terrace. The decor is brilliant, table are not too close, and you can have a relaxing time as the service is not pushy. We left at 11pm but the place was not empty and everyone took their own time as the atmosphere is very relaxing. Food is top notch and prices are reasonable. The seafood platter was a mixture of classic food with a modern touch, and the lobster Thermidor was delicious. The main courses were equally good, and the setting and atmosphere made for a nice evening. We will definitely go back and apparently during summer you need to book a week in advance. This restaurant is a great find - a mixture of classic ingredients with a modern twist in a great setting.

I hadn't eaten locally before and wanted to take my family of six somewhere special on my birthday. After a brief look around all the local Italian restaurants I took them to La Capanna, what a fantastic place this is. We were given a large round table, as requested, and the food was wonderful. The food and service were wonderful. Compared to other Italian restaurants in the area it is head and shoulders above them all.

La Capanna must be seen to be believed. Their new menus are a feast for the eyes, only to be excelled by the food itself. The menu is not cheap, but the quality and quantity of the food certainly justify the price. I chose a well priced Orvieto Classico to accompany a delightful platter of Italian starters, followed by an enormous Dover Sole, served with steaming fresh veg and hot buttered asparagus. I was hard pushed to fit in one of their many homemade desserts, but just about found room for the Chef's Tiramasu served with lashings of cream and marsala wine.

The service was friendly and attentive without being too intrusive and we were looked after from the moment we entered to the moment we left.

All Italian restaurants should be like this!

I have tried and tried to like this restaurant, but there comes a time that you are fed up of being ignored and not recognised as a regular, so I made the decision never to go back after another unadventurous meal there recently.

The food was average but far too much oil is used in their cooking, even vegetables that are normally tossed in butter had olive oil on them!!!

They could do with a visit to ‘Auberge at The Plough’ round the corner, where you even get a smile from the staff as well as good food.
