I had an exceptional meal at a price I find hard to believe - £75 for two with wine - £15 cheaper than a local gastropub. The members of staff were very attentive as well.

We recently ate at Chapter One and it receives full marks for the whole event, the staff could not be more professional, pleasant and pleased to see you. The food and wine was excellent, in all the years we have been coming here we have never had a bad meal or received any but wonderful service. My only criticism, if any, is that the menu could be updated more often. My thanks to Chapter One again.

I visited Chapter One last year and have to say the experience was only positive.

Good presentation, good service, etc, etc. Most pleasant. I have read the Weinberg review below and find it BIZARRE!!!!

What idiot would want to order main course after eating starters. What a prat this man is, obviously has no idea how the system works. He's probably the type that would then order a Chateaubriand well done, then continually nag for its arrival!

Just goes to show "The customer" isn't always right!! What a wally!

We are lucky enough to live close to Chapter One and we are regular visitors. As keen ‘foodies’ we enjoy eating in a wide range of restaurants but we both agree that this is the very best value for money restaurant in the South East. The staff are highly trained and attentive, the food is always high quality, the wine list is exceptional and there is always a good buzz.

On the downside they do not alternate the menu on a regular basis and occasionally at peak times the staff can appear rushed. They only have one Michelin star and they do not appear to be striving to add more but I have no idea how they are able to deliver the quality at the price, I have been asked to pay twice as much for a poorer experience at a good number of London restaurants.

Review by Grant Weinberg (2 November 2005)

Not a very good first time experience and would choose not to return. As a regular patron to Chez Bruce the only comparison would be the food presentation. Chapter One needs to review the professionalism of their staff and the overall value for money of their food. On arrival we were shown to our table and from then on in the waiter was keen to get us ordered and out.

We were with friends we had not seen for a while and therefore keen to dine and catch up. Unfortunately the waiting staff missed this obvious sign and the waiter was not happy having to take our starter order and come back for our main. After taking the starter order he, pushed us into making our main course choice. The food was whipped out and away on completion. Without asking for the bill it arrived. Chez Bruce wins hands down – pity as Chapter One could be so much more!!!
