We had a meal at this restaurant this weekend, and I have to say I was hugely impressed. The staff rearranged tables to accomodate us, the food was prompt and tasty, and the service was beyond reproach. We were made to feel so looked after, even though it was very busy. This was service at it's best, especially the girl who handwrapped my granddaughter's takeaway at the table to her delight. We'll be back.

I completely agree with the earlier review. The chips looked exhausted, and tasted like they had been re-heated. The batter was stodgy and oily. The salad also looked tired. This restaurant sells itself as a 'chippy', so if they can't even get the chips right then what's the point?

After our first visit to the Chippy Doon the Lane we were very impressed, and recently decided to go back again. This time we were disappointed with the food. The fish was tough, and the batter was chewy instead of being crispy. The chips had been dried out, and tasted as though they were reheated in a microwave. The waitress said she would pass on our comments to the chef. We thought she would come back to our table with a reply, but that was not the case. We paid our bill and left - we won’t be back.

This is a fantastic place, excellent value for money and the members of staff were very welcoming. The choice on the menu left me feeling undecided as to what I wanted. I chose cole as it’s not as over fished as the rest, and it transpired to cook well as a battered fish. It was presented really well and I wouldn’t think twice about going back.

My friend and I made a trip to the pictures, before which we went to The Chippy Doon The Lane. It was a fantastic choice, fish and chips all freshly made; you can even get a little tub of tarter sauce or mushy peas, cup of tea and bread and butter at an excellent value for £5.95. The restaurant is lovely and clean with a warm feel and the members of staff are very nice. We will definitely go again the next time we are in Glasgow and would highly recommend.

It’s absolutely fantastic, the best fish and chips I've ever had! Even the pickled onions were brilliant! Every single piece of my dinner was delicious and I am definitely going back! Superb value for money - £5.95 is not expensive for a quality fish supper. You've to go!

My wife and I visited the chippie last Thursday and we had the best fish and chips we had ever tasted. The place was spotless and the staff very friendly. Toilets were brilliant and we're going back next Saturday and taking our two daughters with us. We just can't wait.

I agree with the previous reviewer's comments about the service at this venue. I found staff to be welcoming and efficient. Indeed, the waft of freshly-fried fish and chips is also enticing. Ultimately, however, the food here is a big disappointment. It touts itself as gourmet fish and chips, but, to be honest, it really just wants to charge more for what is extremely average fare. It's even served in cardboard! I imagine they consider this to be a fun novelty, but judging by the difficulty most of the waiting staff had trying to balance these wobbly plates as they served it to customers and that you can get cardboard containers at the very cheapest establishments - I thought this was an ill-conceived move. My greatest disappointment though was the quality of the fish. Definitely fried from frozen and a bit grey to boot - the fish dissolved to mush as soon as the knife broke apart the batter. It was melt in the mouth - and not in a good way. You know freshly caught and cooked fish a mile off - it is beautifully white and al dente and has real texture. You won't find it here. If you really are a great fish and chip fan - give it a wide berth.

I visited the Chippy for the first time last week – on Thursday evening. It wasn't too busy and the service was excellent. The tables are situated on through the bar area, and there is an outside area for smokers or those who like to dine al fresco. From our table, we were able to view the cooking process and I was pleased to find that their extraction system must be very good, as we didn't experience that ‘chip shop smell’. The food was delicious with a good selection of starters and different types of fish. I would definitely go back and have recommended it to others.
