6 Coal Grill & Bar Reviews

Excellent! I took my girlfriend there and had a great time. I'm not usually one to write reviews but we decided that Coal Grill and Bar needed to be shouted about - great service with friendly staff. I had good food - the portions are big. I had a big steak with chips and my girlfriend had the steak burger. We had garlic bread to share first of all which is presented on a wire rack which my girlfriend informs me that food at different heights to the table is trendy! I didn't have room for dessert unfortunately as the sticky toffee pudding looked good. We will be back. Definitely recommended!

Excellent! Perfectly cooked food, in an open kitchen, and wonderfully polite and professional, not to mention speedy, service. The staff are all young, so create a fun and fresh atmosphere, complementing the creative and innovative interior. I would definitely recommend to anyone looking at having nice food and brilliant service.

The service was appalling, the members of staff unhelpful, and the food overpriced and overcooked. I've never been so disappointed with a restaurant, or the management’s attitude.

Previous Review of Coal Grill and Bar - addition:
I'd like to amend my previous review of Coal Grill and Bar. After writing my first review, I heard from management and they coaxed me to give them one more try. According to management, they've really been focusing on their customer service and it definitely showed on our recent visit.
We dined there last Friday night and our service was what one would expect when going out to a restaurant for a meal. The staff were friendly and met our every need. The food came out hot and in a timely manner, and our glasses were never empty. It was a 100% turnaround from my last experience and I have to give them two thumbs up.

I’d come for a birthday celebration, it was a family meal for six. I had fantastic food, starter of scallops, ox tail for two served whole, light rhubarb crumble, great friendly service. Not too formal with a relaxed warm atmosphere. Everyone had a brilliant time. It’s the best place I have been to in ages. I rate ten on ten.

I would not recommend this place to anyone who values customer service. We dined at Coal Grill and Bar on a Saturday night. The kitchen was having problems and they were understaffed. It wasn't even that busy. We waited an hour for our food and our second drinks order didn't turn up until after the meal came. We weren't offered anything while we waited and in fact weren't informed of kitchen problems until it had already been forty five minutes. Some portions of food were very small for the price (ie: surf and turf - £11.75 included a small breast of chicken and the tiniest crab cake I'd ever seen). The fajitas at £12.95 were decent, minus the fact that they were laden with onions, which seemed to me like a filler to make the portions look larger.
Even after the poor service, the barmaid (turned waitress for the evening) still included the twelve and half percent service charge. Due to the poor customer service, I spoke with the manager who didn't even apologize for our wait or any inconveniences and she regretfully removed the optional service charge. Wow, thanks!
