My sister and I were thrilled to find this delightful restaurant while on a trip to Hemingford Grey. The food was delicious - perhaps ‘sophisticated comfort food’ is an apt description. The service was superb, and the special gluten-free menu was a wonderful surprise. The decor and pretty garden were an added treat. I highly recommend a visit to Hemingford Grey - it's a journey back in time to amble along the waterside and see the beautiful gardens and thatched cottages. A tour of The Manor is a must - Diana Boston gives a fascinating and evocative tour of the home and garden of Lucy Boston, author of the Green Knowe children's books. A meal at The Cock, we had two, is a crowning glory.

Excellent food and service, I’m especially impressed by the fact that they cater for people on a gluten free diet.

What a fantastic place! I have just moved to the area and was recommended by friends, I certainly wasn't disappointed. Great food, welcoming, friendly service and a warm, cosy atmosphere – it’s a must visit.

We have been regular visitors since last summer and have never been disappointed in any respect. The food, ambience and service are all absolutely wonderful. The Cock is truly a jewel in the desert and not to be missed. We can't recommend it enough.

My partner and I have just dined at The Cock and we had a wonderful evening. We were greeted by the most amazing smell and very friendly staff. The starters were wonderful, duck parcels and homemade soup. We had the fillet and sirloin steak mains with a side order of cheddar mash, which was the best we have ever tasted. We were satisfied but felt it rude not to try the chocolate fondant for dessert; it takes 10 minutes but wow, so worth it. We cannot recommend this wonderful place enough and will be visiting again - soon I hope.

I dined at The Cock just the other day, and I would absolutely recommend it. It truly is the most wonderful, homely place. With the dark evenings setting in, it feels like a home away from home with its cosy log fire. They have a great selection of real ale, which my husband loved. The food was fantastic and the service friendly and efficient.

This is one of the loveliest country gastropubs that I have visited recently, and has excellent food and beautiful surroundings to admire. A simple lunch of sausages and mash was well executed with a superb choice of real ales to select from. The desserts looked very tempting, but were resisted on this particular occasion. The members of staff were well trained and friendly, and this is certainly the place to come if you want to combine a leisurely country walk followed by a nice meal.

We visited this restaurant following many recommendations from friends and family and are glad we finally made a booking and experienced the whole package first hand. The atmosphere is great, the food is fabulous, and the staff are more than happy to help. Our original booking of a table for two increased, twice, and 'The Cock' was very accommodating. We've since returned and were even greeted by name...definitely one worth returning to!

The service was excellent, the staff were very informative and nothing was too much trouble. The decor was perfect and relaxing. The food was well presented, the sausages tasted better than most, particularly the Mediterranean variety. If there was one criticism, it is that the Mash was so small it wouldn't matter what type you ordered. The chocolate mouse was very good and not too sweet although the Toffee pudding was a little rich. I will come back again but will try the fish instead. Marks out of 10? 8.
