We booked there for the Valentine’s night offer. From the outset the service was brilliant, as soon as we walked into the cosy bar it was quickly established that we had a table booked and could order drinks to put on the table. Three courses for £25 and each course was faultless, with service and attention to match. All the ingredients were obviously fresh and superbly cooked. I do not jest when I say we went to Claridge’s in December and enjoyed the food in The Crown as much! A great evening, well done all!

I stayed at The Crown Inn for a weekend over the summer and was very impressed. The food was fantastic and the service was equally as impressive. We stayed in one of their superb rooms in the main pub building. They serve very good beer and have a good selection of wine. I was also most pleasantly surprised when the time came to pay the bill. I would recommend this pub to anyone, especially Londoners wanting to take a short break away from the smoke.

Review by Joyce and Roger Holmes (Essex) (4 February 2008)

We'd planned to spend a weekend in nearby market town Oundle, but we dropped in to the Crown Inn for what turned out to be a superb dinner. Chicken liver parfait, sea bass and mullet on a prawn risotto and the best carrot cake I've ever eaten. We were made to feel so welcome that we decided to change our accommodation and booked into one of their exquisite rooms. The weekend was one of our most memorable - enjoying long walks in beautiful countryside by the river, which is just a stone's throw from the Crown. The locals are very friendly and Roz and Marcus who own the pub, are very talented people. We'll definitely be back.

We are regular diners at this friendly inn. It is consistently superb and we have never had cause for complaint, whether it be a light lunch, a party of twenty or dinner for two or a family Sunday lunch. Excellent service and fresh ingredients as well as pleasant surroundings. Carry on Mr and Mrs Lamb!

It is a wonderful surprise to find a pub that has firmly grasped the gastro nettle in and around the Midlands, with pretty sensational results that include demonstrably freshly cooked food ...
