We ate at the Glass House over the Easter weekend. They were very busy and yet the service was excellent, from the young lad who dealt with our wine order to the manager who provided a watchful yet subtle presence. The starter I had was the best: sautéed king prawns with lemon grass and ginger dressed noodles which was cooked to perfection. Portion sizes were good especially if you have been up on the hills all day. The place had a great atmosphere with both young and middle aged clientele. They have managed to combine a casual approach with a bit of class, which won for me hands down compared with our other restaurant choices in Ambleside. I definitely recommend it.

My boyfriend and I went to the Glass House Restaurant after a recommendation from a friend. We have to say that we were not disappointed. I had the scallops for starters and they were definitely the best I’ve ever had. For mains, my boyfriend opted for the lamb whilst I went for the leg of duck confit with Cumberland stuffing. The portions were very large but we still gave it a go. After being totally stuffed we couldn’t resist a dessert and shared the lemon tart. The food was excellent and the service was attentive but not intrusive. The atmosphere was romantic and we will definitely go again.

I went to the lakes and the passed the Glass House enroute to a restaurant. When another place in the area did not work, I though I would give Glass House Restaurant a go and I am glad I did. The premise is set in an old watermill - used as the name suggests, as a glass factory.
I had partridge for starters and I think I made a mistake, as it was slightly over cooked, dry and the sauce was a bit too sour for my taste. My partner had the Gaelic king prawns - which I tasted and have to say were lovely. We selected lamb for the main course. Having eaten at some Manchester and Liverpool restaurants, we decided to get some extra vegetables. When the lamb arrived, it was cooked to perfection. It melted in the mouth and was enough to feed two people with plenty of vegetables. I have to say, both of us enjoyed our meal and it was the best lamb I have had, compared to many top restaurants. Moving to service – it is good and non-intrusive. Waiters do not stand around to rush your plates off the table. I will certainly be making a trip to see Neil and his team again.

It is excellent, superb with great service and even better food. It is highly recommended. We hope that the Glass House will not become a victim of its own success and it continues to provide an excellent dining experience. After a dismal meal at the Drunken Duck, we were recommended to go to the Glass House and we were not disappointed.
I had the prawn and chorizo starter, which was delicious. For the main course, my partner had the beef and I the Salmon, both were exceptional. The wine list was substantial and good, with my partner having one of the best glasses of wine with her meal that she has ever had. We were lucky to meet the owner, who showed us around and offered us great hospitality. We thoroughly recommend eating there. We wwould eat there again on our next visit to Ambleside.

We recently went to the Glass House for our fifth year anniversary. It was a delight. The service and surroundings were great but more importantly the food was delightful. Starting with freshly made bread, I had a sumptuous terrine, better than at many a Michelin star restaurants I’ve been to in the past. The steak was huge and very tender. Didn't much enjoy the dessert though. My wife had soup to start and lamb which was so succulent, I enjoyed a nibble myself and I don't normally like lamb. If you’re ever in the Lake District I would highly recommend it. You won’t be disappointed.

Sadly a big disappointment. The decor and ambiance of the Glass House is indeed lovely, giving the promise of a fine evening's dining. Sadly the food does not live up to its surroundings. Courteous service cannot make up for at best lack lustre and at worst downright horrid food. Duck drowned in malt vinegar is not a good combination. Equally avoid the fish pie or bring your own sauce for it. Stale ingredients don't improve the flavour of desserts. The prices and wine list certainly suggest fine dining, but you would need to bring your own food to achieve it in this beautiful restaurant.

Eating here was a delight, our meal was lovely. It was busy, staff never stopped, friendly and helpful. Book in advance it is worth every penny. Well done The Glasshouse.
