Seems about time someone wrote an up to date review of this restaurant and bar. I pop in here quite often sometimes just for a pint, on other occasions, for a full blown meal. A genuinely friendly gaff with real characters both sides of the bar. It’s inexpensive and cheerful at lunchtimes, £9.95, and a bit posh in the evenings. I suppose it's my kind of place. Go for the set menu at £15, always great value with mussels, duck and chocolate roulade – good, honest and well priced food.

I've eaten at Le Gothique a few times, and had my wedding there. I think it's a great place, good food, friendly service, nice atmosphere.

Discovered after reading Time Out. A true discovery. The £15 three course set menu is possibly THE bargain in London right now. Classic French bistro cuisine served by pleasant and friendly staff. We had rabbit terrine followed by excellent and authentic navarin of lamb. The tart tatin was best I have had outside my native France. Topped off with shot of calvados. Too cold to visit the garden on my first visit but will return on a sunnier day.

We visited Le Gothique last Friday and were extremely disappointed. Starters were ok (escargot and smokies) but my main course was atrocious - the fish was off and was sitting on a bed of MUD as someone hadn't washed the vegetables. Not just a little bit of soil - a sea of mud. It made me feel sick. The waitress was sweet and took my meal away. However she was very let down by her management who we approached on leaving. he seemed to think this was a bit of a joke. They took the price of my main meal off the final bill - not good enough - as the whole meal was ruined. £60 is a lot of money to pay for a truly awful experience.
Editor: The Restaurant has responded with the following. "This client did indeed have some very poor spinach upon which his sea-bass sat. He pointed this out to the waitress and we immediately agreed with him and told him the dish would not appear on the bill. Furthermore, I reduced the final £75 bill to just £50 with no service. They were even offered, but refused, some complimentary drinks."

I was married at Le Gothique in 2003. The atmosphere, service and particularly the meal were all excellent! I recommend Le Gothique for any occasion - be it a simple weekday lunch or one's wedding day!

A wonderful meal and impeccable service! With a wine list varied enough to give a decent choice of type (mainly French) of wine and also of price. The Fleurie at just under £20 a bottle complemented our food perfectly. We were too full to have 3 courses each so shared a Banoffie Pie to round off the meal and also so that we could try the Californian Orange Muscat dessert wine with it. It was so good we had to have a second glass! Would definitely go back again.
