We experienced the 'Chef’s Table' at L'Ortolan last week, what an experience, a once in a lifetime event. All the food was fantastic, wines were fantastic, staff were fantastic, all was fantastic. Alan is a top bloke and it was an all round superb dining experience. L'Ortolan is the best place we've every eaten and the best wine we've ever had. The staff are so dedicated and proud of the restaurant. You must try it, you will return.

Thank God for L'Ortolan. Just when I was thinking of curbing my eating out comes a restaurant to awaken the taste buds. The July special set Laurent Perrier Lunch including a glass of champagne at £25 is a bargain. Excellent food cooked with class. The addition of small chef tasting courses (free) included in the set lunch were amazing. Small? Yes but, enough for you to crave more. The small cup of mint and pea soup with truffle oil was divine. Starters of quail salad and smoked haddock risotto were spot on. Mains of Moroccan style lamb with couscous and chicken ballotine with risotto and truffle oil were dispatched with glee. A dessert of dark chocolate fondant with poached cherries looked & tasted superb. I can also recommend the extensive range of cheese served with walnut bread or mixed leaves if you ask! Only minor quibble, one of the three mains in the set lunch package had run out at 1pm. Maybe an alternative should have been added! Is this a place for a special occasion? No, this is so special it should be used every day! See you there!

A special dining experience - the service is impeccable, relaxed but efficient; if you have wine by the glass with each course, the sommelier will be only too happy to give you a discourse on its origins, bouquet and why it's matched with the course; each course is displayed as a piece of art and the flavours are superb and the setting is magical especially in the twilight.

It's not cheap but then it's not ordinary. Go here if you appreciate excellent food and wine with great service and knowledgeable staff. You won't be disappointed!

Have been 3 or 4 times now. The food is excellent and although expensive can be eaten at your own pace and is worth a thought as to the effort involved in creating great tastes. Have been with my husband for a quiet dinner and my more rowdy girls’ nights out and have always had a great time and felt like my every need was catered for.

The surroundings are contemporary which I love and make you feel very relaxed before eating and parting with that hard earned cash. Don’t bother if you are fussy or not a real foodie, you wont appreciate the flavours. This one ranks up there with The Waterside Inn at Bray and Claridges but as it’s nearer to me I intend to keep going in there more regularly as long as the standards are high.

We visited L'Ortolan for lunch to celebrate my father and sister's birthday. As the weather was fantastic we took aperitifs on the patio and were given plenty of time to digest sumptuous and varied menus on offer.

The Sommelier was on hand to help with the vast choices of wines and for a pleasant change was not trying to sell the most expensive wine, but one that would complement all of our tastes and food choices! The only shame was we were all driving and could not take full advantage of L'Otolan’s cellars!

The cheese board for me was a must such it offered such a wide variety of choice, textures and taste (with me being such an addict I was in cheese heaven!) Again with someone on hand to help with the not so well known ones was marvellous!

Overall the staff were exceptionally pleasant and helpful yet subliminal!! The food was exquisite, the ambience relaxed. To be able to see into the kitchens through the fish tank.... Pure genius!

The whole experience was a real treat and definitely one I want to experience again!
