This is the best place to eat in the Ipswich area. Not a place to go too many times a year, save it as a special treat. Amazing food, great service and the boat is immaculate. I’m surprised Michelin haven’t visited this place, because it is that good.

I ate there a few months ago dining on monkfish and red mullet, well what more can I say than delightful. Most definitely one of the best places to eat in Ipswich - I actually rate the ambience and quality so highly that I will be returning tomorrow to propose to my girlfriend. I think they have such a high class of service and quality.

We ate at this lovely restaurant for the first time last night and cannot rate it highly enough. The service was extremely good with the members of staff being friendly and exchanging fun banter with us. The wine list was equally impressive and matched the food. All in all, it was a wonderful evening. While booking we suggest you ask for a table with a view across the water - as the sun sets it's gorgeous.

The minute you enter the premises, you receive a warm welcome and are shown to your table. The a la carte menu contains some lovely classic dishes and this is also reflected in the lunchtime menu. I have enjoyed a range of starters, main courses and desserts, and they have always been of the highest standard. The staff are knowledgeable and passionate about the cuisine and are not slow to share this with their customers. It is real benefit to have a wine recommended or the provenance of a cheese explained. I appreciate that good quality ingredients are turned into authentic delicious French dishes. Il Punto is at the top of my list of places to eat out in Ipswich. All in all, a culinary delight and an original eating experience that I would recommend highly.

Review by Maddie (31 August 2006)

Our visit on Saturday 26th August 2006, was sheer bliss and a real privilege to be on 'board' such a delightful restaurant.

The service was 'par excellence', the food all divinely scrumptious. Considering we were a party of 21, and we had most of the inner upper floor, we were cosseted and coddled most tastefully. We thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere for the whole evening. We did have to blink a little at the bill, but no-one regretted the fantastic dining evening with Il Punto. Long may it continue to be so. We will be back next year (when we have saved up again!) only kidding.

Many thanks to all the wonderful staff, the chef or chefs, and most of all to the lovely Denis, what a wonderfully cheerful and charming person, our thanks to you for making our first Il Punto venture, one to be very much remembered.

If you want the best restaurant in Ipswich, make a voyage of discovery to Il Punto. It has a great atmosphere, and in summer you can sit in the open upper deck and watch the swans go by. But the real reason to go for is the food and wine.

Il Punto has a carefully crafted menu, a terrific selection of wines and is very good value for money. Whether lunch or dinner, we've always had a warm welcome and first rate service. Highly recommended.

Il Punto was everything dining out should be about. The atmosphere was great, the staff were attentive without being overbearing. The food was sensational, and the selection of wines vast and thoroughly enjoyable. Lunches here were the best kept secret in Ipswich, great value, and when the weather was fine eating up on the deck was fantastic. During nearly a year working in Ipswich this was the best in town.

Great boat, bad food and service. Asked for a wine recommendation and got exactly the opposite that I wanted. Tiger prawns for appetisers which hadn't been cleaned properly. Was informed that the head chef said that they were ok to eat! I don't think so. Main course fillet was overcooked and the so called "vegetables" looked like they were on their 5th reheating - soft and flavourless. Would never revisit even if it was free!

Il Punto rates as probably the best restaurant in Ipswich for service, excellent food and a wonderful ambiance. The food is to a very high quality with good portions at a reasonable price. All of the staff are friendly and helpful and do their best to make you dining a pleasure. As the restaurant is on board a boat, it has a unique feeling and with well spaced out tables and low lighting, it can be a very intimate experience!

This place was excellent, with a great setting, good food and excellent, attentive staff. The setting on a boat works really well, and though the tables are laid in a formal manner, the restaurant had vitality and felt very European. The quality of food was excellent supported by a good wine list. Whilst some of the wines are a touch on the pricey side, we have found the house wines to be very good value. I would now rate Il Punto as one of my favourite restaurants in Suffolk.
