With a beautiful location on the Stour Estuary, contemporary and tastefully decorated rooms and friendly staff, it is an excellent and popular restaurant. They also run a cookery school next door. I would definitely recommend The Mistley Thorn for a romantic weekend away. Fresh local fish including lobster and oysters are a speciality but there are plenty of alternatives all of which would tempt me if I we had stayed longer. We booked for one night on a weekend visit to explore Constable's countryside and we would definitely return.

I had an absolutely delightful 3 course meal there. The food is brilliant; beautiful fresh fish and the tastiest piece of rib eye steak I have ever had. Prices are fair as the food is so good. I will definitely be returning very soon. The staff are friendly and attentive.

Brilliant! My wife and I called early on Sunday lunchtime before going to the nearby RSPB reserve and had the freshest lightest battered courgette fritters imaginable with a nice fresh tomato salsa followed by whole plaice that tasted as though it had just been caught. I had wonderful hand cut chips and my wife had new potatoes with that 'just dug' taste. The house Chianti is as good as it gets and the professional but friendly service by the nicely turned out waitresses is a credit to the establishment. If was closer to Bedfordshire I would be there on a regular basis and to qualify I eat out very regularly.

On many occasions we have eaten at this beautiful restaurant and have thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The food is delicious and the service is excellent. A great place to go for a fabulous breakfast on Sunday as well. Highly recommended!
