Ten of us from around the U.K met for Sunday lunch to celebrate my father-in-law’s eightieth birthday. The food, drinks, and service over a three hour period were absolutely excellent. The members of staff were extremely attentive, and met our every need with a smile. We all had various starters, main courses and puddings, and the only comments we all made were really positive. We would definitely recommend this place, and will visit Monro again the next time we are in Liverpool. Well done Monro.

I had been there in October for lunch. It’s a busy and buzzy place. I had fish and chips, best cod I've tasted and expertly cooked. The lamb too, it just fell off the bone. It is magnificent and well worth a visit. I’m happy to recommend and we'll be back again.

I just got home from there, it has great offers. They said the organic wine we had was the closest thing we would taste to Roman wine. I’m no expert on Roman wine but both food and wine were A+. I had Welsh black steak, which melted under my knife while my wife had the fish pie with chorizo. It’s a busy little place but we got a table without booking. We are very pleased.

Had a jolly time there last night. I'm currently working in the city and have been overwhelmed by the friendliness of the staff, who have made me welcome like no other place I've been to!

Steak was superb and arrived as I requested (medium rare) and I also asked for the brandy and peppercorn sauce on the side. It’s these little details that make a great restaurant, and it's well worth a visit.

What a great find! A short walk from the main shopping street this traditional Inn made me feel right at home. The food is tremendous and I had the Jamaican red snapper with an avocado dressing while my wife had the venison with a chick pea and orange salsa. Service was a dream with relaxed informality with a professional knowledge of a cracking fully organic wine list. We only had the house organic red but it was a cracking drink. We'll be returning when we visit Liverpool again and I guess a recommendation doesn't really come higher than that.

I went to The Monro by mistake the first time, and I have to say it's superb for what it is. We've tried both menus at different times of the day and we loved it. Of course you'll get what you pay for. Portions were ok for the cheap menu, (that's why it's cheap). The place is buzzing every time we go there. We feel so relaxed and we go there very often, even only for a drink, etc. Don't believe what some people say in their reviews till you try something for yourself. The Monro is a gem in Liverpool city. Recommended 100%, if you want truly fresh good gastro-pub food, try it.

Following rave reviews I was very disappointed with the whole experience. The staff were initially rude upon our arrival, although that disappeared as the evening progressed. The main course was distinctly average if not a little on the small side. The dessert lacked imagination in its presentation as well as not being properly heated throughout.

The atmosphere of the pub was lively and maybe one of its saving graces, as there was a certain buzz about the place. The toilets however were grotty and in need of attention.

All in all I feel that national reviews were not deserved, and it would not warrant a return visit.

Super little restaurant and the quality speaks for itself. We went for lunch on Sunday and even though it was January the place was buzzing. The beef was soft and tender and was accompanied by a homemade Horseradish sauce and was followed by a homemade bread and butter pudding. This again was superb.

On the back of that visit my colleagues and I visited for lunch and again the price of £5.75 for the two courses (trout fillet with apple to start and a duck salad for main) was amazing.

I can't recommend this place enough!

Review by K Smith (6 August 2006)

I had a lovely meal with my husband and parents, however when I returned for my friend's birthday they seemed unable to cope with a large booking. Slow service is understandable with a large party but we were left waiting for over an hour without receiving any food or idea of how long it would be. The staff were unhelpful commenting repeatedly that it would be with us in five minutes. After a further half hour wait we were forced to leave having not eaten.

I was going to agree with the previous reviewer but we've just been back and guess what? The outside is now rather swish and very unpublike! This is just as well as what's on offer inside is still remarkable at the price.

Everything we've had here has been great value and with a new organic wine list which they told me is unique to Liverpool they're steadily building a fantastic reputation.

We've been a couple of times and they ARE getting busier and this is even though they're still in the middle of Europe’s biggest development area. That speaks volumes for this little place and we really can't recommend it enough. More restaurant than pub so give it a try.
