After a few years absence we made a very welcome return to No 4 last night. On a hot evening the calm, cool of the restaurant was really welcome. The food was of a really high standard; for starters we had sweet corn soup and prawn and crayfish risotto, and it's good to see that bread is still being baked daily on the premises. For mains, the black bream was outstanding and a simple chicken dish was heightened by a tasty mushroom gravy reduction. No desserts - too full. We also enjoyed a keenly-priced bin of Cotes-du-Rhone. The staff were great, and we'll definitely be back in the near future.

We love No 4 Wood Street. We've been there a couple of times now and the food has been excellent each time. The restaurant itself is small but quite classy, the service and atmosphere was good too.

The first time, we had a large group in the dining room, which was lovely and very nicely laid out. The second time we had a dinner for two in the restaurant and again found it really enjoyable.

The only gripe I had was that the hugely over priced drinks menu, where a can of Carlsburg was around £4. I accept inflated drink prices usually as they are a good profit source but in this case my drink wasn't chilled and came from a 59p can. This let the classy image down a little. Please invest in some pumps and a proper fridge.

I have just been to No 4 Wood Street and everything was first class. I’ve been a food critic and restaurant manager for twenty-five years and could not fault anything in this place. Well done!

We discovered 4 Wood Street shortly before moving out of the area. What a find, we now live in Cambridge, and without fail still visit the restaurant as it has to be the best restaurant in the area, and what value for money. The food is to die for and the service very good. It is not an expensive place to eat in at all.

We visited this restaurant last weekend and certainly weren’t disappointed. The staff were friendly and attentive, and the food was simply superb. My rabbit liver parfait starter was beautiful, the coq au vin was as good as what I've had in France and my wife's Derbyshire lamb was cooked perfectly. Many a French chef would be proud to serve the Crème Brulee we had for dessert. £50 for the meal with wine and a bottle of sparkling water was certainly well spent. I'd recommend No.4 Wood Street.

We booked the private dining room for our daughter's eighteenth birthday and a little more detail to the decor wouldn't have gone amiss. We were very impressed with the service and the food was excellent. Expensive for this area, but like the saying goes - you get what you pay for. It was a nice touch from the chef to inscribe "happy birthday" in chocolate on our daughter’s dessert plate. It was memorable to say the least, and we will definitely return, and tell our friends and family about the experience.

No 4 Wood Street serves the best food in Mansfield, in more than adequate quantity, with excellent service, cheerful staff and at a reasonable price.

Having been put off by work colleagues, portions too small though, too expensive etc., we decided to book when my sister and brother-in-law visited. So glad we did! We have travelled all over Nottingham to try and find somewhere decent to enjoy a good meal at a reasonable price and we found it, - greeting, ambience, choice of wine, quality and presentation of food were all superb. I will definitely visit again, if we can find friends who are prepared to appreciate quality, not quantity - as unfortunately is the norm by locals-although we were stuffed when we left. Truly, it is an amazing find in Mansfield.

I had Sunday lunch with my mother, and the service was fantastic through out the lunch. The slow roasted pork belly was a dream. The goat’s cheese and beetroot salad was to die for. I have told all my friends and planning my next visit very soon.

I’ve visited the restaurant a couple of times recently with my brother and each time we have had a wonderful evening. The food is fabulous and the service is outstanding - a real treat for Mansfield! The menu changes regularly so, on each visit we have had a great choice of fabulous dishes - it really isn't easy to make a choice. Whether a regular evening out or a special occasion, the restaurant is definitely worth a visit. A+!
