What can I say? Stunning - on so many levels! Fantastic food - fresh, imaginative, light and balanced, a special mention must go to the potato wrapped duck, the lemon meringue and, as usual, the breads, impeccable professional, discreet and slick service from well-informed staff and beautiful surroundings for £30 a head. We have visited on many occasions for gourmet evenings, Sunday and mid week lunches and afternoon teas. We have never been disappointed. Faultless - we cannot wait for our next visit. Thank you and compliments to all concerned - many others promise, you deliver, and more!

What can I say, exceptional food, service and delightful venue. The owner has a reputation in the area for delivering the goods time and again and is an ambassador for locally grown/reared produce and that adds to the taste considerably. Being local to the restaurant I go as often as I can and haven't left unhappy. The accommodation is supposed to be nice having had positive feedback from family but I have never slept there myself.

It was an exceptional two-night stay for us. The room was superb, no comfort ignored, the staff were attentive and the hotel extremely well managed. The food we tried was a-la-carte one night and gourmet the next. Not everything was to our taste, but it was always to the highest standards and some exceptional dishes judged by any standards were the rabbit, venison, and bread-and-butter soufflé to die for. The wine - well we don't follow the trend, and we know what we like - but there was no pressure to go to top end. Of course it’s expensive at £700 plus. But is it worth it? Absolutely! You get what you pay for!

Superb food! We stayed overnight and couldn't manage breakfast on Sunday morning. Every course was an exercise in restraint and clarity but not at the expense of flavour. It's not cheap. Our one night stay cost over £400 but did include afternoon tea, a four course dinner with a superb bottle of Grands Echezeaux, bed and (no) breakfast. Service was warm and knowledgeable, a refreshing change for us London dwellers! I just wish I could have made it down for breakfast and more of that black pudding! Highly recommended.

I think this restaurant is very nice and it is one of my favourites. I recommend it to anyone.

Booked as a special weekend for my wife's 50th in November 2004. Welcome, excellent, room good but not stunning; nothing missing, it just didn't quite do it for me.
Meal (including planning for 4 of us & 2 surprise guests) absolutely superb! Wonderfully prepared and widely varied food, plus instant cooperation to substitute dishes when food-fads came into play. Wine service was without doubt one of the best I have ever experienced! Helpful, knowledgeable and aimed at good drinking, not just weaselling the extra £10 or so out of the punter per bottle.
The establishment very brilliant at conspiring to make this the surprise we had hoped. Heartily recommended, excellent value for money and somewhere to which we will definitely be returning!
