I have eaten at the restaurant twice and liked the food both times. However, I felt the food had too much salt on both occasions and I was gasping for a drink of water when I got home, and so was my partner.

I've been going to Pani's for years, made friends with most of the staff, to be honest it's the main reason I go. I find the coffee to be just OK and the food disappointing (the chef's actually from Sunderland). But it's by far the friendliest place to go in Newcastle. It can be funny watching people think they're special because they're in a café, ha,ha. But aye, lots of kids, lots of pretty waitresses, Graham the 'barman' is a legend (me pal) and it's now ‘Non smoking’ which is great. Go.

This is legendary in Newcastle. The staff are very friendly, attentive and the food is hot and delicious (if you are like me and like piping hot food!). The prices are very, very reasonable. Best at lunch time though where there is a steady stream of customers and atmosphere. Have a coffee elsewhere but eat here.

Pani's never fails to satisfy with an extremely friendly atmosphere coupled with fresh food served fast, but you are never rushed! The best espresso and cappuccino in the area, also a superb tiramisu. Whenever I have out of town visitors I always take them there as you will never be disappointed!

I love this cafe! I stumbled across it when out shopping with a friend last year and ever since I've been going back for their wonderful food - try out their pasta dishes. Every time a friend comes up to visit or I want to impress someone with my knowledge of the area, I take them here :)

If you've spent time in Italy, going to Panis is just like going back to an Italian city. It's full of atmosphere, and once you've been a few times, you'll be treated like an old friend. The food is simple but very well done. Very good value generally, particularly the daily specials for a fiver or so. The coffee is outstanding and probably the best you'll taste anywhere. Roberto and his staff are genuine and have their friendly service off to a fine art. Easily the best cafe in Newcastle, if not the country!!

This cafe is THE cafe of cafes if you’re in Newcastle city centre. It's excellent food, glorious atmosphere and amazing prices make Panis one of, if not the best, restaurant I know of. This site says that the average cost per head is £20, ignore this. I have been several times and can get a lasagne, ice cream and 2 soft drinks for £7.50!

I visit Newcatsle for three weeks every year with Opera North and we love Pani's. (it is just around the corner from the Theatre Royal) This week I was in Newcastle for just five days and ate nowhere else. We actually had a discussion about why and decided that it was quite simple.... The food just tastes so good! Also the friendly and attentive service is perfect - just a shame that we have to work and can't comment on the wine list!

Pani's is without a doubt the best Italian restaurant in Newcastle. The brothers who own it actually come from a village near where I used to live in Sardinia so I may be biased, but the food is exceptional. The prices are amazing. For lunch times its great, you could be in and out in 15 minutes providing you could finish in time, the portions are huge. It isn’t the best place for an evening meal if your wanting to spend hours there though as the seats aren’t really designed for long dining. Anyway my tip for lunch would be the penne pani's and a glass of apple and kiwi juice. And evening meal Malloreddus with the Costa Smeralda sauce. Enjoy.

Pani's is a a genuine Italian in the heart of the city centre serving a unique niche with its high quality lunchtime menu. Meeting the need of those wanting great quality, but fast efficient service, Pani's also serves the best coffee in town. You'll often find a queue at lunchtime and be prepared to speak Italian as the majority of its staff does come from Italy. Pani's also runs a free Italian class one evening a week, which you can go to and learn while drinking a glass of Chianti in cosy surroundings.
