We stopped at The Red House Inn by chance on our way to the New Forest. We were bowled over by the quality food, friendly staff and beautiful décor. I would not hesitate to recommend it.

As locals, we are so pleased that The Red House is back on track as an excellent restaurant. We brought the New Year in with Sandra, Gareth and the team and have enjoyed lunch and dinner regularly since. The seafood is fresh daily and the steaks are second to none. The waitresses are friendly and Gareth knows his wines. All in all we can highly recommend eating at The Red House but booking is becoming essential as its popularity increases.

We dropped in for supper at the Red House last month and have since made it a regular haunt - unpretentious and welcoming with friendly service and well-balanced dishes, which use fresh, locally sourced produce. I had a great steak and my wife can't get enough of the seafood, together with a more than adequate wine list to share the food with, they have got the mix just right. Sunday lunch is first class too. A rare little jewel and busy - its worthwhile booking ahead.

My friends invited me down to the Red House to sample the delights of the Hampshire countryside. The restaurant was well worth the journey from London - delicious food in ample quantity served by willing, friendly staff complemented by an interesting, lengthy and reasonably-priced wine list. This is a real find and I will be returning very soon.

My brother and I popped in for lunch at the end of February and were very impressed. The salt beef was a delicious dish, regrettably infrequently encountered on menus, and we lamented not having the time to have seconds. Potted shrimps were served, as requested, slightly warm so as to spread easily on the toast. The whitebait was crisp and fresh. There were a wide variety of wine by the glass and very helpful and pleasant staff. Pity we had to leave so soon. I'll be back for dinner in the near future.

I have been to The Red House three times since it opened and have had an excellent time on every visit. The food on the main menu is quite simple but it is all created using local produce and cooked to perfection. The specials are always fantastic with lots of fresh fish and seafood coming from Cornwall. The service is informal and very friendly and we can't get enough of the place. Ask for the table by the fireplace.

The Red House has had a chequered history over the last 18 months but I am pleased to say that it is now in the hands of a husband and wife team who are committed to providing good food at a reasonable price. It re-opened after a refurbishment in November 2008 under new management. We have eaten there twice since it re-opened and have had excellent meals on each occasion. Local real ale and well kept London Pride in the bar.

Simon, just to let you know the couple that used to run the red house are four miles down the road at The Red Lion Overton.
