Luckily, we tried Restaurant at Riverdale Hall Hotel on the first night of a five day holiday and subsequently ate there every evening. I have eaten at many, far more expensive, 'five star' restaurants over the years and can honestly say that this was on a different planet. The food was simply superb and every single dish surprised us. The staff are excellent and we would like to thank them.

Review by Neil Marsden (25 October 2007)

I stayed there for three nights, and rooms are basic, more than adequate. They are very large. There has been some work done on the rooms since we stayed last year. The hospitality was as good as ever and the service in the restaurant was superb, the young members of staff should be proud of themselves. The food is out of this world. I have stayed at many five star hotels and eaten in many so called top class restaurants. It would be fair to say the food at the Riverdale is more than a match for any of them, superb. The atmosphere is very relaxed and everyone is very friendly. Overall it would be fair to say that if you are looking for sumptuous, formal elegance then this hotel may not be your cup of tea. If you are looking for a relaxed atmosphere in a beautiful location with unbelievable food, you’ve found it.

Review by Julian Chubb (10 January 2004)

I have been staying at this Hotel on and off for about 15 years. It has seen a change in management since I have been going but fortunately the staff seem to have been preserved. An absolutely splendid range of food is on offer here and only local game and produce is used so quality is assured. Food is always first class in both presentation and taste, the wine list is fairly extensive and will suit all tastes and budgets. Service is always of the highest standards.

It is wise to book a table as this place can prove extremely popular especially in the summer. A weekend stay here is heartily recommended. Superb surroundings set in the most beautiful part of the country, Northumberland, Ideal for long walks and fresh air.
