I met a long lost friend for afternoon tea at The Angel last week, she had been several times before but it was my first time and I was not disappointed. The atmosphere was lovely, very clean, staff very attentive and the afternoon tea was sensational. The room we were sat in was so welcoming we ended up spending three hours there and didn't realise the time. I will be visiting there again soon.

£86 for a meal for two - starter, main, sorbet, sweet, coffee and a bottle of cheap plonk. It seemed a bit too much to me and the food is just okay. The dining room had the atmosphere of a school exam room. We didn’t even have a dining chair to sit at the table, it was a silly chair that made you slouch and hence terribly uncomfortable to eat. The members of staff were of variable performance. There was also a horrendous din from the bar all night.

This is our favourite posh place to eat. The staff and food are always exceptional and the surroundings are very nicely done. We also got married at the hotel last year and so it holds a special place in our hearts, even without the sentimental memories it is still exceptional. Afternoon tea is also well worth a visit for.
Review by Dr W Hughes (23 October 2008)
We were going to eat there, and when we arrived we went into the bar for a drink. I was very rudely told that only hotel guests would be served until 6.30 pm, even though there were some people already drinking there. That may be the law, but they didn’t have to be so rude about it. I left in disgust.

We have eaten at The Angel at lunch times and evenings and are always delighted. The food is good and most importantly the staff are exceptional.

I have eaten there several times in the past few months, and have yet to be disappointed. I went there once with a party of eight and we all had something different - it was excellent. The superb frittata and pasta dishes deserve a special mention.

We have not for sometime eaten in the restaurant, but the food served in the bar is excellent, the surroundings are high class and very agreeable. The staff are very helpful and attentive, we are looking to eat there in the next two weeks to celebrate my son’s twenty-first birthday. But as far as our recent experiences are concerned there are few finer locations. The courtyard, if weather permits outside eating, I have not seen a better place.
It would credit a London establishment and deserves great praise. It's my daughter’s favourite place to eat and have a coffee. Make an effort to visit that gem of a place. If that was a Michellin starred restaurant, you would have patrons from a fifty mile radius beating a path to the door. We think the standard of food though is of a very high calibre, we drive from Hereford, for twenty-eight to enjoy the establishment.
