We got married at Prestonfield, and had an amazing reception in the Garden Room. We returned for our first anniversary, and really enjoyed the fabulous food. The service was great both times, and the staff couldn't have been helpful enough.

Having noted some of the poor reviews for Rhubarb, I felt I should write and say that my experience was totally different. During a three night stay at Prestonfield, we ate at Rhubarb on two of the three nights and The Witchery, which is part of the same group for the other night. We found Rhubarb to be the superior of the two and on both occasions we could not fault the food or service, which was very professional. The setting was spectacular and the warren of opulent rooms was amazing. The male waiting staff in their black kilts added to the enjoyment. This is a fabulous place for a special occasion.

What opulence, from beginning to end - it could not have been better. We were greeted by name at the door of our taxi and escorted to what can only be described as a fabulous drawing room - amazingly rich surroundings. We were given an amazing wine menu with over 800 choices of wine. This was matched by an equally rich food menu. The whole experience from start to finish was unhurried, perfection is nearly too strong a word but it is certainly the nearest to perfection. What an absolute gem. I just have to mention the lovely ladies room, a vision in pink rhubarb. I can't wait to go again.

Review by Lisa (7 November 2007)

My husband and I arrived for our pre-booked table at 7.45 pm.The opulence and decadence of the Rhubarb room is breathtaking, but unfortunately things went downhill from there. After ordering a drink and my husband's chosen bottle of wine, we relaxed and felt assured we would have a lovely experience ahead.

The wine did not arrive and after an hour I reminded the waiter. He apologised and it arrived shortly after. It was an expensive and very cold red wine and his excuse was that it had just been taken out of the cellar. He then proceeded to take the wine away, muttering he would decant it to warm it, which seemed very bizarre.

The meal was very mediocre considering the exuberant prices of £30 for a steak, £10 for a bowl of soup. After waiting quite some time for attention from waiting staff, we ordered liquer coffee. After thirty minutes, it had still not arrived, and after complaining, we were told that they were having problems getting the cream to float. Definitely not the kind of service you would expect. Upon leaving, my husband mentioned our complaints to a man wearing a kilt, who was covering there tills in the entrance lobby. He was uninterested and rather defensive. Needless to say we did not leave the service charge,we are very disappointed and would not return.
