Really excellent food - up there with the best meals I've had. I found it very difficult to choose what to have because everything on the menu looked so good. My husband had steak and I had wild pigeon breast, and they were both cooked absolutely beautifully - very tender indeed. There’s a warm atmosphere - a cosy pub that still feels elegant enough for a special occasion with very friendly staff and excellent service. If you're in York, it's well worth the 20 minutes drive out.

The Restaurant at the Rose and Crown is exquisite. The food is absolutely amazing, the surroundings are perfect and the members of staff are excellent. Highly recommended, you will not be disappointed. This was possibly one of the best meals out we have ever had!

We visited Rose and Crown on Monday. It was a chance visit as we passed through the village and glad that we stopped by. We were greeted in a very warm and professional manner by the young man behind the bar who dealt with our requests both swiftly and efficiently. We ordered the haddock and chips, which were simply out of this world - nicely presented, good quality ingredients and superb value for money. A very clean and well appointed eatery and an absolute must if you are in the area. Thank you for such a treat.

Review by M. Savage (6 February 2007)

We have recently had yet another enjoyable meal at this establishment. The new owners Ben and Lucy Williams have maintained and some would say surpassed the superb reputation that has become associated with the Rose & Crown.

The carpaccio of tuna to start with tasted as amazing as it looked and left us excited about our main course of the Duo of fish (salmon and sea bass) on a bed of their now locally famed risotto.

As usual the risotto was perfect and the fish cooked to the highest of standards. The barman had excellently recommended a refreshing bottle of Pouilly Fume to accompany our meal and his choice could have not been criticised in any way at all.

This restaurant has always been one of the 'hidden gems' of the North's dining places but surely with service and food of this standard it is only a matter of time before the secret is well and truly out

You will not be disappointed!

The Rose and Crown has seen a lot of new owners in recent years, but none have transformed the place like the new family! The restaurant has become a cosy and warm place to relax. The food has moved towards a more seafood based menu which is arguably the best you will find in Yorkshire! Long may their reign continue.
