Review by Mrs. Stockdale (5 August 2009)

I dined there for Christmas dinner and had a lovely time so when I had to book a work hospitality dinner for colleagues from Finland and Germany I opted for Seawings. Partly to show off how beautiful Plymouth is with the view and also because of my previous experience with the helpfulness of the staff when I made my initial enquiry. Our group contained schools students on an exchange and when I mentioned they may not be so taken with some of the 'fancier' foods they said 'No problem, we'll compile a menu especially for you with that group in mind'. We went with approx 35 people and not one order was lost or forgotten, as so often happens in restaurants, everyone got to eat at the same time, always ensured we had drinks and were comfortable etc. Overall it was fabulous and I am now going back this week for a special occasion as well as hoping to book it for Christmas too. It is recommended.

We have had another fantastic evening at Seawings - a different sunset and sails but the same view, excellent service and wonderful food. Thank you very much!

We said goodbye to a colleague last year and had a wonderful evening. The sunset, the sailing boats and the service was superb. Our hosts were friendly and very helpful. We are going back expecting to have a great time again.

I had lunch at Seawings today and the food was excellent and the service was good. The previous review where a group of friends left the place disappointed as they had it wait a long time to be served was because they were short staffed that evening - this usually happens in business.

Review by Jon Ham (21 September 2007)

When we first entered the restaurant I was struck by the cleanliness and attention to detail. We were promptly escorted to our table in the conservatory by a smiling waitress called Charlie. The views from the conservatory are outstanding, especially at night time when you can see the sun setting over Plymouth Sound and see all the boats coming and going from Sutton Marina and the Cattewater. Our first course was astounding. I had the crab cocktail, while my wife had the moules. Both were exquisitely presented and the taste was exquisite. Now, onto the next course where I had the sea bass, served on a rosti with a vierge sauce and my wife had the roast rib of beef. Again the presentation was brilliant and the taste was mouth watering. It really was a shame to eat it as it looked so good. Finally, we move onto the desserts, where we chose from among the selection of desserts, which had a mini selection of crème brulee, profiteroles, raspberry tart and fruit salad. Again the presentation was brilliant and the food just melted in my mouth.

Generally I would say this total experience was brilliant and I would thoroughly recommend this restaurant to any food gourmet, who likes well presented food with a choice of good wines. Although we had to wait for the food, the views and the general ambience made up for any delay and the fresh food when we got it was outstanding.

I contradict the last review, as my husband and I dinned at seawings in June, and found the service and food superb. I would recommend to anyone.

Review by Julia Lewis (21 May 2007)

We visited Seawings on Saturday 19th May. Our table was booked for 8.30 pm. A special occasion for us. We ordered a bottle of wine and gave our order. At 9.30 pm we still had not received our starters. When queried we were told they were short staffed in the kitchen. I asked if we could have some bread. One slice of bread was dumped in a basket and presented to us. No butter.

No apology or being made aware initially that there would be a delay. Again no sign of the starter and so we told the staff that we were leaving and walked out. But we were not the only ones - another couple nearby did exactly the same thing.

We had then to take a taxi into Plymouth at an extra cost of £10. To say that we were disappointed is an understatement. Many of my friends love to dine out but this is certainly one place I will not be recommending!
